I didn't post this in the resources section as it ain't an online modeling shop!

The BIG Apollo landing module kits at £20; 1/48 Fwotsit stealth plane; Star Trek Kazon ship and various Star Wars easy-kits(no 'proper' original trilogy stuff, other than the Imperial Shuttle); twinpack fighter jet kit with paints (one was a Phantom, don't recall the other); glider model, spotted at Ipswich. I'm guessing that whats on offer may vary locally. I was tempted myself by the stealth plane and Star Wars Imperial Shuttle, but managed to rein my wallet in and resist!

I presume you mean the 1/48 Lunar Module?

It's pretty inaccurate in many ways and takes a huge amount of work to turn it into a proper representation of the real thing.

The older Revell space kits may be dropping in price, due to the increasing availability of the Dragon 1/72's and their associated hype.
That said, it appears that the Airfix 1/72 LEM is more accurate and easier to accurise.

That shops, other than model/toy shops, are selling kits, is A Good Thing!

Regards,
Bruce

Plenty of goodies in the Enfield store; treated myself to a Revel (ex-matchbox) Privateer at £8.99; a Mil-26 Halo for £6 and lots more is available, you just sometimes have to look very closely at the shelves, as sometimes it is well hidden

TK Maxx? As in the clothes shop?

Might have to wander down to our branch here...

Yes in the toy section. They seem to have a few Revell kits on the shelves most of the time, for the last few years in fact.

Apart from snagging an Atlantique after being alerted by a fellow modeller, I never seem to be in my local TK Maxx at the right time.

Went to Cardiff today. I went in with no particular agenda but rather fancied picking up a new Airfix F-86 kit from Antics, if they had one.

After reading this post I thought I'd have a quick look in TK Maxx. It's not far from the railway station and on the way to the town centre. I came out with a 1/48th F-117, a 1/72nd Privateer( to replace the one my wife broke (smashed to bits)), a 1/78th? Fairey Rotodyne and a 1/24th Mclaren Mercedes MP4-20 (I've fancied building a racing car for a while). All at "bargain" prices.

On the one hand I'm quite pleased.

On the other hand, to quote my beloved " Whoever tipped you off about this is a dead man"

And she's normally so quiet. Must be those tribal Yugoslavian genes that does it.

Dazzled, I've no plans regarding trips to Wales in the near future, but forewarned is forearmed! I'm not sure what such a murder would be classed as, Plasticide? I'm not sure what the scale of the Lunar kit was, but the original price was qouted at £36 if that helps. I did pick up an Atlantique from TK Maxx myself a while ago.

I've had a few bargains from there in the past, but now Modelzone has opened here, there's regular local access to half price kits if you don't have to have the very latest release. Having said that, it's still nice to pop in every now and then and be pleasantly surprised by whats in the toy aisle!

Cardiff branch has the Apollo command module in 1/32nd scale. I couldn't swing that with the wife glaring at me.

Is the Revell 1/32 Command/Service Module based on the Block I or Block II design?

I don't know, I'm not that much of an Apollo afficianado.

Maybe good ol' Google could help.

I have had a look but I'm not sure. The main giveaways between Block I and II spacecraft are -

lack of docking probe on Block I
different radiator patterns between the to Service Modules
different locations of radio antennae

One of the problems is that the box art usually depicts a Block II. The plastic may be a Block I (that is exactly the case with their 1/100 scale kit.
Nearly all these models were produced before Apollo actually started flying manned missions (1968) so they were based on the earlier Block I design, which was abondoned after the 1967 pad fire.
