Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
So in this thread, you can try to predict something about new Airfix Releases in 2014. It's NOT your personal wish list, it's a prediction of what will happen.
Having wished for a Tiger Moth, what I think we will get is:
In 1/72 (that's my main interest)
New tools:
Spitfire Vb or Vc. Definitely needed! If we were lucky, a Mk 14 as well!
Bf-109F
Defiant
Beaufighter
Ju-88
An iconic British WW1 biplane - Sopwith Camel or Bristol Fighter (Airfix are getting going on biplanes with the new Gladiator) or maybe an interwar one like the Bristol Bulldog
A big 4 engined aircraft - Sunderland, B-17 or Stirling
A post-war British jet - Harrier GR1 or Jaguar
A P-47, probably a bubble-top
In 1/48, I'd say something relatively adventurous like a Supermarine Scimitar, or other post-war British jet.
So what so you think?

Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
I think a Scimitar in 1/48 in well on the cards as I forked out too much for a Dynavector one last year...
Agree the Defiant and a post-war UK jet like the Harrier GR.1, P.1127, or SR.53...the commitment to the Lanc when Revell, Hasegawa etc have done new ones as well bodes well for a Sundie or Stirling...

I hope to see a re-tool Ju-88, but as long as it's re-tooled as the Battle of Britain A-1 version as nobody does one in 1/72nd at the moment.

Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
I think we will see a new Defiant (and I hope for lots of alternative parts)
A Vampire fighter would be a logical extension of the new trainer kit and a 1/72 Sea Vixen would make sense.
I think that if we see any new 1/76 armour it will be the 1/76 Centurion and Scimitar and possibly to represent D-Day, the LCM3 without the Sherman and also the LCVP.
A new Churchill (with alternative parts) could also be possible at some point as it is getting old now and the bogies do need reworking.
David.

Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
I think we can safely rule out a 1/72 Sea Vixen after talking to the Airfix team at several shows this year. The CAD work for the 1/48 can't simply be scaled down as plastic parts can only be made so thin. I was told that to do it in 1/72 would require starting again from scratch. Doesn't mean they won't do it eventually but not in the near future.
My money's on a Scimitar, probably in 1/48 and the Defiant in 1/72.
Regards
Tom

That was what I had in mind too. It would make sense to have BoB participants, so they can market more Dogfight Doubles and larger sets.bluesteel wrote:I hope to see a re-tool Ju-88, but as long as it's re-tooled as the Battle of Britain A-1 version as nobody does one in 1/72nd at the moment.

Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
I bet they go with a new Spitfire Mk IX in 1/72, it would be a natural since it was one of the old series one kits and they already did its adversary, the FW 190. Besides, a new generation needs a JE J Spitfire!

Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
I predict that this thread won't even get to the second page before becoming a wish list.AndrewR wrote:So in this thread, you can try to predict something about new Airfix Releases in 2014. It's NOT your personal wish list, it's a prediction of what will happen.
However...they're busily replacing old tools and prioritising ones with historical tie ins.
So - WW1 and D-Day?
At least one more 1/72 Spitire mark.
A late model 109
Perhaps a Camel and a Fokker triplane. Eduard, Revell and Roden's kits make no money for Airfix and a good cleverly engineered Camel seems as good a guess as any.
Another heavy? Halifax?
I'm assuming a 1/48 aircraft subject as well, perhaps a couple. Another Spitfire, perhaps an XIV, and a 50's jet - that Vampire in 1/48 fits their theme.
Or none of these. Hornby/Airfix are pros at this and are showing an extremely clever marketing strategy, so whatever they are, I bet I'll feel I need them

Re: Predictions for Airfix 2014 releases
1/48 Spitfire XIV - logical follow-on
1/72 Defiant - needs a new tool, is WWII and British, and small
1/72 P-47D - as they are replacing all the WWII fighters, this one needs a new tool
1/48 Supermarine Swift - continued coverage of British post-war jets, and your big surprise. Though you heard it here first....

They did a MK IX as one of the first in the new red-box offerings back in 2009/2010. It has JE J decals.
