They did a MK IX as one of the first in the new red-box offerings back in 2009/2010. It has JE J decals.

That is a new tool?

I had no idea.

TomW wrote:I think we can safely rule out a 1/72 Sea Vixen after talking to the Airfix team at several shows this year. The CAD work for the 1/48 can't simply be scaled down as plastic parts can only be made so thin. I was told that to do it in 1/72 would require starting again from scratch. Doesn't mean they won't do it eventually but not in the near future.

My money's on a Scimitar, probably in 1/48 and the Defiant in 1/72.

Tom, all their drawing work including research and general arrangement seems to be CAD, (hence the mess up over the Mustang tailplane) that and the external appearance 'skin' of the kit would probably just need scaling down, things like very small detail parts, wall thickness and sprue patterns would need looking at and although everything would need going over I don't think they would 'start fom scratch' as you or I understand that to mean. Also salepersons aren't usually engineers so consider, do they really know or are they just giving you an easy answer?

AndrewR wrote:So in this thread, you can try to predict something about new Airfix Releases in 2014. It's NOT your personal wish list, it's a prediction of what will happen.
I predict that this thread won't even get to the second page before becoming a wish list.

Shane
I will be monitoring this closely. You lot have been warned!

Cheers

Yep.

It's kind of a dumb kit, but still light-years ahead of the original Airfix MK IX

Yes it is and not too bad either, although a bit simple. Think the mk. XIX without the cockpit. I'm building one now and rather enjoying it.

My money would be a new tool Spitfire Vb and seeing as how they have done a Gladiator and a new Hurricane, I would think a Defient would be a good bet...

I'll just stick with the Wish List thread .... if I could come even close to predicting stuff like this, I'd be on a sunny island somewhere

What I can predict is that I'll buy some of the new-tools ....

Because it's something to do when we should be working!...erm, that is whilst I awaiting data...just in case your my boss...you're not are you?

I would die of shock if a Spitfire wasn't in there somewhere, although you can never have too many!

One or two Spitfires to be sure, but that leaves at least 8 or 9 other new tooling to talk about.

And you can never have too many new releases... :ha:

Maybe a 1/72 Dornier Do 17 with one being raised from the depths.

Paul read my mind with the Swift and Spitfire XIV. We really do need an accurate XIV. My money is on a Swift FR5 as an F7 is too much to ask for...

I reckon that's likely a couple of years down the road, once they've dome some preservation work on it!
