Some excellent stuff in the den Darryl. The B-29 is looks great as indeed does the sub. I applaud your optimism re getting the Foxbat finished for Telford - good luck with that!

Cheers Stu :)

My last days off have been quite productive on the model front.

First the sub is done.

And there's been some good progress with the Superfortress. The bomb is completed.

And loaded

And lots of other bits went on

And, suddenly, it was completed.

However, even at this late stage it wasn't all plain sailing. Remember what I said about curve balls.

First the nosewheel snapped off... again, so I decided to drill down at the offending joint and fit a piece of hardened steel wire to put a final stop to that nonsense. Then one of the nose u/c doors fell off for no apparent reason and, just for a laugh, a piece of the main undercart dropped out while I was fitting aerials. Honestly, I was happy to put this up in the loft room and stop waiting for more bits to drop off.

On the bright side I now have a lot more space in the Den.

Space for.....the Foxbat.

I've got the labourer in again to mix filler. This one looks like it'll need a lot.

More progress after my next shift

Despite that B-29's best efforts to fall apart in front of your very eyes, it looks great Darryl. Blimey, The Bomb only just fits - it was quite a size.

Very nice work on the B-29. It really came together for you in the end.

See it's getting to that age where bits just drop off! Looks great though as does the sub!

Thanks guys, particularly the sympathy about bits falling off. It comes to us all eventually :ha:

Should've pointed out that the markings on the bomb are deliberately rough and not just my usual ham-fistedness. When Fat Man was deployed it's joints were sprayed with a sealing varnish by hand so it wasn't particularly neat. Happily, not particularly neat is something I do really well ;-)

The B-29 is an impressive build...and not just because of the size. Awesome work!

Lovely B-29. I hope to get my Airfix version looking as nice.

I love that b-29! great work! With something that big it's hard to hide faults and from what i can see there are very little. I'm really impressed with the windows. They look really neat

Foxbat in progress.

And a change in the Den.

Image

I've moved my spray painting operation completely out to the workshop in my garage. It's going to give me much more freedom of choice when it comes to what I want to spray and, so long as I don't have too many problems caused by temperature, this is going to be a permanent arrangement.

Image

I've moved my extractor booth out of the Den and that's freed up a lot of extra space for me. To the left is a small 2kw heater that should keep the chill of both myself and my subject. I've also inherited an old oil-filled electric radiator that I can use to take the edge off during winter. There's a stereo too, for when I spend a bit of time out there. That already sees some use while I'm fixing cars and motorbikes in there. To the right is my airbrush compressor and further over an ultrasonic cleaner to keep the airbrush nice and clean. The grinder in between these is a bit of a nuisance but I have plans to move this to another location, freeing up more space. Up above is an old kitchen cupboard, which is ideal for storing my airbrush and other useful bits.

As soon as the Foxbat is ready for paint I'll be able to see how good the set up is and whether I need to re-arrange. 8-)

I am very envious of that spray painting set up! Seems like a proper purpose built mancave is evolving :ha:

That superfortress is an absolute beast of a thing. Great job on it - though I have to ask, how do you plan to display something so big? I think it would take up the entire living room of my flat!
