Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Ok I fibbed a little, what I meant to have said was after this next update then that will be the last until the model was completed...
Masked off and sprayed the gun covers with a mix of Tamiya red and Tamiya hull red.
Drilled holes into the nav light sockets...
Stretched some clear sprue to approx diameter...
Painted half with Tamiya clear red and the other half with Tamiya clear green cut to size and inserted them..
The landing light lenses had some silver painted on the back of them and then glued into place.
Regards
Mark

Excellent work Mark, that is looking great now the decals are on. I also like how you've dealt with the nav lights, I suppose one of the issues and challenges with a scale like 1/24th is that stuff like that has to be replicated - a bit of green and red paint at the wing tips a la 1/72nd just doesn't cut it
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Well thanks all for looking in on this build and now unfortunately after a little over two weeks this fantastic kit is finished, I could have done loads more to it if I was a super detailer or chucked some PE at it but as I build primarily OOB I didn't.. . Actually that said I think it doesn't need loads of extras to look good.
I added some generic wiring to the engine, some Tamiya seat belts( Last minute) and some stretched sprue grab handles on the canopy which tend to be forgotten on some builds.
I've faded the camo and then did a bit of postshading and a tad bit of flaked paint here and there and that's it.
As I have said before this build has been quite a surprise, it is a great kit and I am so glad that I have now built it.
Here with a 1/72 Airfix Hurricane for size comparison.
I'll put some more photos in the relevant thread.
Now to find something else to build......
Regards
Mark

Awesome build, the Hurricane is one of my favorites and I really like your result! That is one of the 1/24th scale kits I have always wanted to try but never got around to so I really enjoyed watching your build.

Truly inspirational work, Mark.
You started out with a good kit and have made it into something exceptional.
Be sure to sit a 1/144 Hurricane next to it!
Regards,
Bruce

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Do you know Bruce when I first got this kit and opened the box my first thought was that this was going to take me at least a couple of months to do and so hadn't planned on building much else before this years end. Once the engine component was finished though everything else just wizzed along which did surprised me as my thinking was...big kit...big problems but that is not the case with this and it just goes to show that when Airfix were good they were very good.Brews wrote:I cannot believe that you did that in two weeks.
I think using hot glue like plastic weld and acrylic paints has a lot to do with the speedy build as there is a lot less time wasted waiting for things to dry.
Lol, I know that I don't have one in that scale Bruce but I do have one in 1/48MerlinJones wrote: Be sure to sit a 1/144 Hurricane next to it!
This I think will be the next one on the bench and it will be built as G4*E, lets see how this one goes together.

Thanks Jim.
I have painted the interior of the P-51D with chromate green but have a feeling that could be wrong and should have used interior green instead, I may have to repaint.....

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
An update on the P-51D...
Nice detail...
A nice and clear canopy....
but the decals for the Doolybird roundels are OOR.
So it's lucky then that I am building the American scheme for this machine.
I have since painted over the chromate green with interior green as I was not happy with the match. The floor was given a wooden effect as some photos I have seen seem to show this but whether it is right or wrong is immaterial now as the fuselage is now all sealed up .
I have just finished painting the spinner so that can be added tomorrow and I have already applied a coat of klear so I should be able to get the decals done tonight.
Regards
Mark

Re: Titan's 2012 Table Top.
Another quick upfate...
The main decals are now on and only the smal stencils remain which I should have on today.
Then I need to paint the formation lights add the exhaust stubs a bit of weathering and finally a flat coat.

Thanks guys, the P-51 is now finished a few things could be changed on this kit ie treaded tyres no df loop aerial and I dare say a couple more things but for the money this kit is great value so tomorrow I can now turn my attention to the cobra and start getting that built, that should please you Shaun.... .
