Looks fantastic. I always wanted to try those blurs but I'm a cheap bastard. besides with my home made blurs you can never say I put them on wrong. :ha: :ha: :ha:

All joking aside its a sharp build.

Prop blur looks good.
Is there a standard direction for props to spin?

No. For instance Griffon and Merlin engines turn in opposite directions on Spitfires. Some twin engined planes have the props turn in opposite directions to minimize torque effects.

Excellent work on this Andrew, and as others have said, really cool prop blur.

Don't just blame school days, I continued it through college and into the workplace, and have now built a career on that exact ethos!

The decals had a spray with sealant last night and a second one tonight.

I put the wheels on this evening, so the glue has time to cure and they won't fall into the fuselage during decalling. In theory...

Should be ready for decals tomorrow.

Cheers

This is a great angle. I like how it looks with the wheels in the retracted position.

You got me wanting to build another of these kits. They would look good side by side but in different paint schemes and with a 40% discount from Hobby Lobby its a hard deal to pass up.

A 40% discount on an already cheap kit 8-)
I think it's a great idea to do a dual display as I'm building the Airfix Wildcat too!

Decalling at 7.30 am before the hordes got up. Academy Corsair national insignia. Not great colour thickness on the white but way thinner than the usual Academy decals.

The family is back from NYC? I hope they got to have some fun while they were there. Your Airfix Wildcat is going to have a RAF camo scheme correct?

It was mostly a medical business trip, but there were lots of trips to Central Park, and one to FAO Schwartz. They got me a big Mr Happy:

The Airfix one is going to be in the utterly non-authentic "FAA" scheme on the Commemorative Air Force machine - white undersides, light blue and dark green camo on top. CAF members all have the title of Colonel, so I'm making decals for Col. Sanders as the pilot's name. :-D

They will look great together due to the striking difference in paint schemes.

To bad I didn't think of it when we spoke I would have suggested them go to the MnM store on Broadway. Three floors of nothing but MnM stuff. The walls are covered with the candy in all kinds of color combos.

I expect they'll be back there in a few months

Gloss finish and then washes

Dark grey on the grey and light grey on the white.

Things look much better after two coats of varnish. Satin, then matt.

Image

I want to have the plane look patchy and one way of doing that is to change the reflectivity.

Looks like I had a bad reaction between the varnish and the wash in a few places. The old orange peel look has appeared in a couple of places, although thankfully, the colour is still white and/or grey!

Image

This was probably an effect of not leaving one of the layers to dry long enough before putting the next layer on.

Image

However, there is nothing particularly bad. I have sanded down the cowling a little on the port side, and a minor paint touch up and some pastel chalk will hide the damage. Apart from that little mishap, everything has gone pretty well. A couple of bits of canopy framing need repainting, and an aerial and a few sticky-outy bits need adding.

cheers
