Airfix 1/72 North American F-51D Mustang 3D framed picture.

Post by beany »

Not quite finished but I had to hurry it to be ready for the AMSIG table at Farnborough Modelfest tomorrow. I'll have it fully finished for Telford in November.
Made a total hash of the kit - it fought me every inch of the way. Fortunately, the Alclad Chrome going totally wrong actually gives it a kind of weathered effect like on the box art.

This is the first in a series I intend to produce of Modern Airfix box art framed picture builds - next up will be the new tool Hawker Typhoon (which isn't a lot different to the Mustang artwork, but I've got to start somewhere).

I'm open to suggestions of what you'd like to see built in this manner - and in fact, do feel free to send me the actual kit to give me the inspiration. :ha:

Wow. That works really well. I love the rockets!

How do you mount the plane into the picture?

I have seen this kind of presentation a long time ago, but yours beats anything that I saw. What an interesting and different way to present a model. Extremely well done.

That's really good different way to present models, opens the door to a range of set ups etc and good luck at the model fairs you deserve a prize for this, keep them coming look forward to your next build.

Excellent Al, really brilliant in concept and execution. I don't have the imagination or vision to do stuff like this so my admiration is genuine!

I think I chatted to you at Telford one year, didn't you do the big hovercraft box art job? Also superb.
