Italeri Spitfire XVI - now a double-build!

Post by DazDaMan »

Just landed on the workbench....

I did say I wasn't going to build another Spit for a while, but I was hankering to build another as my P-47 build is driving me insane. Plus, I've never built one of these before, and it looks a nice kit.

Progress:

Kit-bashing, quite literally!

The bits look to be all there, fortunately.

Those blisters need to be cut out for the E-wing versions to be fitted!
Image

A bit like this, actually!

New blisters glued in place:

The wings' interiors have been painted and they're being stuck together at the moment....

The sticker on the box gives away the project ID - this is to be a model of the Spitfire living just a few miles down the road from me!

Lovely job. I have fancied building this kit for ages so will keep my eye on this build.

Have you seen this link for making Spitfire Camouflage masks?

They are for 1/48 scale but it would be easy to scale them down if you needed 1/72, just print them at 67%.

I hadn't seen those before, no. I might give them a bash. Thanks!

Incidentally, this Spit is 1/48th scale. So far it's gone together rather well, with only some slight trimming of parts to get them to fit. The top cowling can be left off to show the engine exposed, but mine will be closed up.

I'll get the rest of the camo painted tonight, plus start assembling the landing gear.

I might well break out the other one of these that I've got in the stash....!
