Hawker Fury K2050

Post by Labrador »

Hi folks, I wonder if anyone can help me out with some suggestions.

When I was a boy I had the Coulson painting of a Hawker Fury K2050 on the wall of my bedroom. I've got an old Matchbox kit of the Hawker Fury, and I rather fancy building it as this plane. The decals in the kit have the chequered stripe for the top wing, but number K1938, so not numbers I could rearrange.

I'm thinking I could try to paint the numbers on, but that would require a really steady hand and probably look a bit naff. Perhaps I could make a stencil out of masking tape?

If anyone has any ideas how I could do this I'd be much obliged.

You're just going to have to find someone with suitable surplus decal numbers.

Do you have a computer and printer?

If so, you can buy clear decal paper that can be used with either ink jet or laser printers. All you need to do is find the right font for the numbers, experiment with font size using ordinary paper and, when you have the font and size sorted, print out the serials on the decal paper. Then paint over the printed serial with Johnsons Klear or some other clear sealant.

I've done this a couple of times and it works well.

I agree with Eric - I too print my own transfers and I have found that it is very straightforward and the results are good.

If you don't have the printer, then I can run some off for you. Just PM me.

Cheers

Oh, you can print them? That's a great idea. Our printer died a while ago, I'll take you up on your generous offer. I'd better be able to do this one justice!
