Hawker Hunter 1/72

Hawker Hunter FGA.9 1/72

After sorting through the spares box I turned up a few Hunter parts and although there were not enough for a complete aircraft I realised that I could probably put together a cockpit section. So for this little project I have used an old Matchbox front end, some left over Revell parts and I added a spare Pavla cockpit set.

The cockpit went in with reasonable ease and fills the space quite nicely. I was particularly happy with how the seat turned out. The canopy windscreen is not a perfect fit at all (it was after-all designed for the Revell kit I believe) but I tried my best with it. Having it displayed in the open position meant that I had to lengthen the rails by cutting into the outer cockpit sides which proved difficult but was worth it to get the canopy to sit correctly.

The decals were also spare from an old modeldecal sheet and went on ok although there was some residue left behind that I had to clean up. Once sealed in klear however they looked fine. Paints are all Humbrol enamel.

To finish the model I made a small base from plasticard and the small sign to add interest.

Ok so it’s only half a Hunter but it was lots of fun and its better than having these bits and pieces taking up space in the spares box forever right? :)

Best wishes

Very nice. Just shows that leftovers aren't only useful in the kitchen ;-)

What a great idea and how beautifully executed.

It also looks like the windscreen and canopy look very good on the old Mbox fuselage and correct one of the MBox kit's biggest weaknesses.

Nice idea. I was working on a display based on an Air Museum ( Currently on hold. ) which would have utilised items such as this.
So many models, so little time.

Very well done!
I would not have picked that for a Matchbox front end, as dwomby has observed.
This could be a great solution for display space - a line of 1/48 cockpit models!

cheers,

Great idea - I think it needs a ladder or viewing platform to complete it, but a line-up of similar models would look terrific. Cockpit Fest in 1/72!
