B-17F Flying Fortress “Old Bill”, Chelveston, 1943
Hi everyone,
At last after about 6 months I have completed something! The Academy B-17F.
I decided from the start to keep the build clean and simple and as all the basics are there no extra detail has been added. Having already read comments about the excessive wing dihedral present on the kit, I decided to add a plasticard spacer in the upper wing root which was easy and seemed to work just right.
The decals are from Kits-World although I did also use the instrument panel decal supplied with the kit.
The most difficult part of the build was painting the ball turret which took a lot of time and patience however seeing it painted and in place was definitely a highlight.
The model was brush painted using Humbrol enamels and varnishes.
Overall this was an enjoyable build and hopefully the start of a more productive year of modelling. Anyway, here are a few pictures…
Thanks for looking
Stu

That is very good.
And you didn't fall into the excessive dihedral trap I've sen on some Academy B-17 builds.

Now that looks very neat indeed! Very good brushwork and the ball turret is excellent
Best wishes

Nice build Stu. It really captures the lines of the B-17 very well. Excellent paint work.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale

I bet painting that ball turret nearly drove you mad! Excellent job though and a beautifully finished model. Definitely one to be proud of.

Awesome. Do you use a topcoat of any kind on your brushed finish? It looks amazing...

Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
Hi bigfiver69, I have used Johnsons Klear before and after the decals and the final finish was achieved with 2 brushed on coats of Humbrol Matt-cote.bigfiver69 wrote:Awesome. Do you use a topcoat of any kind on your brushed finish? It looks amazing...

Well done - it's a killer job, made all the more impressive by the large surface area. Nice fortress for sure...Stupot wrote:Thanks everyone for the nice comments!
