Airfix 1/72, Rockwell B-1b “Lancer”

Post by Stupot »

Rockwell B-1b Lancer (40051 “Lucky Lady”)

Hi everyone!

This is the Rockwell B-1b from Airfix in 1/72. The kit itself is fairly basic so to try and improve it I added some detail to the cockpit and made all of the aerials, vortex generators and pitot tubes from scratch. The fore planes were altered and blended in to the fuselage and the hole behind the wings was blanked off and detailed. Humbrol paints and varnishes were used throughout.

It’s a kit that requires some work particularly in filling and sanding around many of the joins but I have to say that I’ve really enjoyed making it!

Thanks for looking!

Really a nice finished model Stu, I like it and that background that you used adds a nice perspective.

I don't admitting that I did a double take at that first photograph - at first I thought you had provided a photograph of the real thing for reference! Great stuff.

Nice work, did you use the kit decals? The ones in my kit are really bad, out of register and childish artwork.

Great result, i tried to build this kit many years ago and ended up throwing it in the bin so much respect for a fantastic build

Hi Saxon,

I did use the kit decals which for the most part were ok. The ones I had trouble with were the right hand Lucky Lady image which had some print errors. I had to mix up some paint and touch up part of her arm and a little bit between the arm and body. Also the tail flags were out of register but I got away with carefully trimming them with a sharp blade. This aircraft was my favourite from the start and unlike the other options the nose art appears on both sides!

Cheers
