TimJ's Red Dora ** Finished**
With a few days to go before the off I thought i'd post the preliminary pics. Mine seems to be an early boxing of this kit, the artwork even has swastikas included.
Sprues, including a stand.
Instructions.
As far as the markings are concerned while I do have a couple of aftermarket sheets for Doras I couldn't resist this sheet I saw at Telford.
According to the instruction shet the D-9 is an example captured at Marienburg and later tested by theNII VVS. The underside of the wings appear to be grey for the forward area and natural metal for the rest apart from the ailerons which are RLM76.

Re: TimJ's Red Dora
I like the way you think, Tim. Are those US decals also for the D-9? If so do you know where I can order those from?

Re: TimJ's Red Dora
The US markings are for an A-5 I'm afraid Dirk. There is a sheet with a US marked D-9 on it.

I'm not sure about availability in the US but Hannants in the UK have them in stock.

Re: TimJ's Red Dora
I've made a start and as the others have found it does go together quickly. I started off by painting the interior RLM66 and painted the pilot.
Then with the interior installed I closed up the fuselage and after sanding down the seams on the wings I added them and the tailplanes.
The fuselage seams will need a bit of sanding but I should be on to painting by the weekend. Like some of the others mine will be wheels up for a change.
I also have a part built Dora which is at a similar stage so while I'm building this one I'll see if I can get that one finished too.

Re: TimJ's Red Dora
I've made a start on the painting. After a coat of primer I've given the fuselage a couple of coats of RLM76.
I've since painted the grey and natural metal areas on the underside of the wing so it does look a little more colourful now. I should have the camo finished over the weekend so more pics Monday with luck.

Re: TimJ's Red Dora
I've got the first coat of camouflage on. Going from the decal sheet I used Xtracolour RLM75 and RLM82. The grey will need another coat but the green looks OK.
Here's a pic of the underside showing the grey and natural metal areas.
Next on the agenda after a bit of touching up and a mottle will be painting the areas where the German markings were painted over, then it will be ready for Klear and decals

Re: TimJ's Red Dora
I'm nearly there Brews. I've just got back online at home after nearly three weeks.
After finishing the camouflage I painted the areas where the German markings would have been. Not knowing which shade I went for Light Aircraft Grey as photos show it to be a very light shade. The sliding part of the canopy was painted the same colour.
A couple of coats of Klear later it was time for the decals. Although the instructions show stars in eight positions there were only six on the sheet. Luckily I had aHasegawa MiG-21 which included stars of the correct size so I put those under the wings. This is how it stands at the moment.
Just the propeller and tailwheel to add, a bit of painting and a coat of matt varnish and it'll be finished. It certainly looks different with red stars on it.

Re: TimJ's Red Dora ** Finished**
I finished 'Red Dora' today. I'm not sure if it was because mine was an early issue but it went together well and use of filler was minimal.
Here she is.....
Fw 190D-9, W.Nr. 210251, captured by the Soviets in Marienburg in March 1945 and later tested by the NII VVS.
I enjoyed this build, so much so that the Dora I've had languishing in a semi compleed state for the last 18 months is nearly finished too.

Very nice build and thread. Refreshing to see one in a different scheme. Very cool.
Besting 60 years of mediocre building of average kits in the stand off scale
