Thanks!IvanV22 wrote:Great work, looking forward to seeing this one finished!
I'm still waiting for spherical beads to arrive from Hong Kong.
Slow work on the framework was all I managed tonight. The lift frame has been dressed up with a few cubes and cylinders in various places. This adds interest and disguises blemishes and "features".
The lower ring on the landing platform gets coloured gold - using a permanent marker. It needs to be severely darkened to represent heat from the engines.
The original landing legs have been shortened and will be used as docking clamps for the crew module.
I'm working on the vertical framework. The docking clamp pieces will go from the top of the vertical frame to just above the docking collar on the top of the service module.
I also mixed some Milliput to plug a few holes in the crew module, and smooth over a few rough bits here and there. I also used a bit on the lunar rover and forgot to take a photo!

Re: Lindberg Lunar Lander
Some more beads arrived today. Eight mm black ones. I spent a while this afternoon patching up the holes in the beads with milliput!
Not exactly interesting.
Once the milliput has hardened, I can get them painted.
cheers
Andrew

Re: Lindberg Lunar Lander
The beads were primed this morning and here is the first batch mounted.
The rails for the lift need to be raised a couple of cm - they are just propped up against the side of the spacecraft so far.

Re: Lindberg Lunar Lander
Those beads are very effective and now I can see how the lift rails are going to work. This will be an impressive bit of sci-fi when it's finished.

Here's how it looks with only one side of the support frame painted.

The big fuel tanks arrived yesterday and have been primed.
I'm still waiting for the bits to make the storage modules.

You sure you're not just making four Robby robots?

More spraying on the beads, plus a few boxes and shapes to go on the girders.
The box shape on the left is the gun pack from the old Airfix Hunter kit!
The other box is a kit part.

Re: Lindberg Lunar Lander
Thanks chaps.
I hope to be able to spray the big fuel tanks silver tonight. Modelling is severely restricted due to younger son's extreme hyperactivity at the moment.
Still no sign of the bits for the landing leg storage. Should have gone to Ikea instead of shopping in Hong Kong!

Re: Lindberg Lunar Lander
Three of the big fuel tanks get mounted on the service module. One more to fit, but it has to be done later. I have to fit one of the other fuel tanks in behind the lift rails before I can glue that tank in place.
The other four have been sprayed aluminium. I was going to paint all eight, but I ran out of aluminium paint!
Still, alternate coloured tanks should look good.
I'm also preparing some of the extra boxes and bits to go on the support girders. And forgot to get photos!
cheers

I don't see a problem with alternate coloured tanks, it'll give it even more character if anything How's the youngest doing?
