Splash's Wessex 5 & Sea Harrier
As I have a personal interest in the Falklands War, having served on 846 squadron during the conflict, I thought that until Dragon release their new Seaking Mk4 I will have to settle for building a Wessex and as luck would have it, today I picked up the Italeri Falklands Anniversary set containing the Wessex 5 and Sea Harrier FRS1.
The two kits are not new but are basically good kits and at £16 for the two not bad value for money. The worrying thing is that Italerie have listed the Wessex as belonging to 874 squadron which is totally wrong they have dropped a big clanger they should have put 847 squadron.

These look great Splash. Can't wait to see what you do with them. As for "clangers", so long as the plastic is the right shape a little informational innacuracy can be accepted. After all, it's only us serious folks who'd be bothered by it. Most would just be happy with a model of a Wessex, whatever squadron it came from

Nice choice Splash, i have been looking at this set as Airfix it would seem are not going to have the 1/48th Sea Harrier or the 1/48th GR3 released till the end of May.

Nice looking box set. Two models for £16 seems good VFM to me.

No time today to start the build but here are the parts photos and a shot of the same Wessex kit I built for an earlier GB.

Re: Splash's Wessex 5 & Sea Harrier
The good thing about the Wessex that took part was the fact they were in tactical markings, with just black call signs and red/blue roundals.
If I have time, I might try to to model XT484 YH (845 squadron) this a/c flown by Lt Peter Manley & POACMN Arthur Balls when they fired two AS12 missiles at Stanly from less than 700 yards at night demolishing the roof of the Stanly Police Station.
To carry out the conversion I will have to scratch build the missile sight, launches and missiles, but this is what model making is all about, pushing you skills.
Regards

Re: Splash's Wessex 5 & Sea Harrier
The Sea Harrier is just flying together, I like the way this has been engineered, the wings are made from three parts and fit over the body with only two joins across the front and rear to sort out, as you can see from the photo the joints will need minimal work.
The other thing I like is the cockpit is a separate sub assembly this let's you work on it and build the rest at the same time this would make this a good blitz kit.
The only thing I have noticed some parts have a small amount of flash but as the plastic is soft it's easily sorted.

Re: Splash's Wessex 5 & Sea Harrier
Simple question when the over painted the Sea Harriers white with dark grey on the way down to the Falklands did they paint the intakes as well or did they leave them white?

Re: Splash's Wessex 5 & Sea Harrier
The Harrier certainly is coming along well Splash and the way the wings fit copies the prototype!
Hows that for realism?

The engine compressor blades look good on this kit all they needed was a coat of silver followed by a dark oil wash.

Re: Splash's Wessex 5 & Sea Harrier
All pictures I have of Falklands SHARs seem to have grey intakes, at least in the openings...
Sorry I'm late to respond. The boxart looks correct.
