Splash's Telford builds

If it goes on or under the wet stuff and doesn't fly, it's in here.

Cheers guys, I'm really enjoying the change from building a/c, the small scale is challenging but it makes the scratch building simpler.

I'm now adding the gun covers between the turret and barrels using tissue paper and PVA glue diluted down with water (I find the little individual jam pot jars ideal for storing the glue)

Great work on all of them Splash; some proper scratch-building going on!
Best wishes

Great progress, Alan. Not sure where I read it but apparently the fluted ends of the cannon barrels should be removed as well.

Cheers I will look into that, although in this scale I don't think it will make much difference but it would be easy to fix.

It's surprising how effective the two tone grey camouflage is at breaking up the out line of the ship. Although having said that I have had problems finding grey ships in the North Atlantic in the past.

After you pointed it out to me, they stood out like a saw thumb  so I simply took a slither off the end of each barrel and they look a lot better now.

Hi Splash

Admiring your work, very ambitious!

I also love taking the Airfix kits and giving them a makeover. I think there are so many possibilities with these kits.
I started building my own HMS Ajax and ended up scratch building pretty much everything.
I have however ended up creating my own parts for 3D printing, as this is very much the future of the hobby.
I remember getting some 3d resin parts from 3dmodel parts and being blown away with them!

So being a 3d geek myself I've got my own online store at Shapeways specifically for 1/600 scale kits.
You might want to check it out as I'm always adding parts!

Let me know your thoughts and any feedback/ideas would be very welcome.

Thank you for you link those ships boats look awesome.

Unfortunately when it comes to after market parts I'm a bit of a cheapskate :-D and tend to like messing about with plastic card or moulding my own resin. I have often thought about going down the 3D path as I'm a bit of a computer nerd but feel at the moment the definition on small home kits is not quite up to the mark.

Fortunately for me Airfix moulded some reasonable 50ft Pinnace in their HMS Hood kit and some excellent fast boats and 27ft Whalers 30ft gigs in their HMS Repulse kits so I'm going to see if I can copy these for the older Warspite build.

Thanks again for the link I will book mark it for future reference.
