RAF Kingscliffe

Post by Ratch »

Work started on an airfield at King's Cliffe in 1941. Originally known as Wansford, it was RAF Wittering's second relief landing ground. The Air Ministry renamed the airfield RAF Kingscliffe, contracting the name of the nearby village. It served both the RAF and USAAF.

Really good and very atmospheric Ratch!
Best wishes

Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Just brilliant mate. I like the way the photos almost tell a story, e.g. people coming to work, preparation of the site, then planes get tractored in, work on the planes - fuelling etc. which is pretty much what you've shown, so next would be pilot getting into plane (suitable figure from aircrew kit?!), engine starting up (prop blur to temproarily replace the prop blades) or just a photo of the prop spinning (hairdryer used to turn it, or just blow on it!) - and a temporary bit of cotton wool stuck on the side for the exhaust, then one plane taxiing out after the other - before you know it you've almost got a stop motion movie on your hands.
Your build is a great inspiration Ratch, I may have to try this myself.
Cheers
Al.

Ratch
I have no idea how you can be so productive and maintain such a high quality.
RAF Kingscliffe is no exception and you have created a very interesting scene. The subject is very well chosen too with both US and UK elements.
Cheers

This is excellent. Could I just ask where did you get the details of the dispersal bay from?
Is there a drawing of one somewhere?

Thank you in anticipation for any kind reply.

The dispersal is by Amera. They are indicated on several maps of airfields I've seen (including Kingscliffe) and photographs can also be found.
