Stuart's Airfix PR.XIX

Post by Stuart »

The Madness of this place is rubbing off on me.....

If trying to build a model in a month wasn't effecting (??affecting????..anyway..) my blood pressure enough, I only went out and bought an Airfix P.R. XIX this morning - argrghghghgghghghhhh!!!!!!!

So anyway, I will try and build both for this GB. I'm going to do somethings a little bit diffrently and see how it goes.

One thing I mentioned on my intro thread, is that I only build RAF aircraft. So to get over that, and because I was inspired by the rather excellent Swiss PR.XIX build in Airfix Model World, I'll build the Swiss version...(and it's nothing at all to do with the fact it's easier to paint!)

This is great, Stuart! But surely you mean the Swedish version? I just built that mid February, 24 hour blitzbau.
Great little kit, you will enjoy this build.

I Agree with Sissel its a great kit and the all over PR Blue on the Swedish version looks great. I built one last year as a 24 hour blitz and really enjoyed it.

Have fun

Progress....

Wings are together, and I've glued in the back bulkheads on one side, before paint this time. I don't seem to get on too well with these new spitfire cockpits, so i'm changing the way I do them - see if it helps (Mk.22 next to it)

Just a little bit of progress - I've fitted the cockpit to one side of the fuselage and then taped the other side on to set it in the correct position. I don't get on very well with these new spitfire cockpits, so I'm trying a different approch of fitting and then painting - I'll see how it goes....
Next to it is the seat that I'm in the process of improveing - I've added a little bit of plastic strip to the seat back to represent the cusion and another little bit for the height adjust handle. i think I may have some PE belts somewhere...I've never used them but I'll have ago.

I've been inspired a bit by the article on the MK XIX in the latest copy of AMW... I'm trying to add a bit of finesse without going down the after-market route too much, again we'll see how it goes.

Nice work on the seat, I can see the method of using strips working.

Good progress so far. At that stage doing the two should be possible, don't give up mate.

All the best.

I'll give it go :-)

I've just ordered an Eduard pre-painted PE set for this, I've not used one before so I thought I'd give it a go. A bit of practice before I tackle my 1:48 Airfix Lightning F.2A...

I'll paint up the pit in readyness for the PE stuff, I'm not planning on using the whole set, just the belts and ip and maybe some ofhte sidewall stuff- it's pre-painted so that'll help (i was thinking of getting some resin cameras as well, but I think I'll wait for the 1:48 version to come my way), then it's assembling and painting (I wonder if humbrol do PRU blue in a rattle can?) and decaling, there arn'tthat many decal on this kit so that should be quick.

Actually this'll be my first build using all Humbrol Acrylics, I've just started to move over from enamels... any hints and tips anyone?

I got my PE set through the post over the weekend, looks great and I'm looking forwards to moving this along. I also noticed on Hannants today a 1:72 sheet of post-war spit decals with a HSS MK.XIX with a PRU blue spinner...looks great, I may haVe to go for it.
