Operation Sealion / SS GB *** SB Completed ***

Post by Purplethistle »

I had suggested a Seelowen Group Build that got some enthusiastic responses, but insufficient numbers for a full GB. What I proposed was a theme that Hitler had acually launched Sealion and that German forces had landed in Southern England. This gives the opportunity to model panzers, Falschirmjager and wehrmacht against British backdrops. The nature of this means that it would require more than the normal 4 week GB timescale. I will be doing a couple of projects on this theme anyway, I just wondered if anyone else fancied doing something on this theme between now and October which would have been the last feasible time to launch an invasion?

Addendum - Although the initial suggestion was based around the outcome of the theoretical wargame conducted in 1975, the current BBC series SS GB is similar enough to warrant broadening the umbrella to 'Jerries in Britain'

Hi Thistle, me again. Doesn't look like you had a lot of responses but I've just bothered to look at this section of the forum again!. Are you still going ahead with this, I thought of reversing the US and RAF aircraft on abandoned Luftwaffe airfield pictures, perhaps doing German transports or fighters at RAF sites, or in front of RAF hangars. Sorry, didn't mean to waffle, just had this idea!!.

Sounds good to me Marky. I'm going to be doing 2 dioramas between the end of May and mid August. One with a couple of 1/72 Panzer IIIs in a South Coast village street or railway setting and a 1/35 Home Guard barricade. Another possibility is a Defiant or Blenheim 1F v Ju52 dogfight!

Just to let you know Thistle, I am still going with this one. I have two Bf109's nearly done that will be parked at an RAF airfield (Lympne) with damaged or abandoned RAF fighters nearby. It's just taking me a while, other projects keep grabbing my attention.

Hi PT. Not sure if you progressed with this one. I managed to build two tanks and two Bf109's as well as some German troops but that is all so far. Perhaps a re-attempt some time!.

Funny you should resurrect this one Marky, I saw a trailer for the new series, SS GB, coming soon on BBC and thought that would maybe revitalise interest in this theme with the powerful imagery of German uniforms in a British setting.

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Interesting idea for a series there!!. I meant to get around to some wrecked RAF aircraft as well, but I am prone to signing up for enough GB's to last a year!!. Still, worth a go I think. SB?...

Yes, that's the one. The magazine just has Reich Britain as it's 'headline'.
