Splash's scooter ***finished***

Post by splash »

I need a break from classic old kits, so I'm going to build the new Airfix Skyhawk for a no stress build, my LMS had a 10% off day so I picked one up for £9 which I think is not bad.

I have had a quick look at the kit and it looks like a good one, it comes with the option of wing slat flaps open or closed which is a nice touch

This is a sweet little kit, just what we have come to expect from Airfix of late.

Today I have assembled the air intakes, jet pipe, cockpit and wings and given the cockpit a coat of black, when the paints dries, I will add the decals and close up the body.

Sound like good work, but just to point out something about Skyhawk Interiors, they were more of a greyer colour then black. But Black would suit Ok too :-D

At a guess, I would have gone for grey for the bulk of the cockpit colour too Splash. I'll have a look on Google Images.

I'll just have a quick gander on Google Splash.

Edit - back from my quick gander and the cockpit would appear to be predominantly grey Splash. Check out "A4 Skyhawk Cockpit" on Google Images, there are quite a number of decent photos by the look of it.

Well then again, all I did too was google image search it. And I came up with grey.

IMHO G.I. is one of the most useful modelling tools since the airbrush. I practically live on it during builds these days

Like all new Airfix kits the part fit is great but be carful with the glue, Airfix tolerances are that good that what fits perfect on a dry fit is a tight fit once you add the glue, thin liquid glue is the answer.

Interesting point there Splash. I am yet to be build a new-tool modern Airfix offering, but that makes perfect sense, I'll bear that in mind when the time comes.

This is a real gem of a kit, perfect for blitzing the only thing to watch out for is the thick sprue gates on all the parts, I would recommend using a razor saw as side clippers will damage the parts.

Sorry for the lack of photos, I'm having uploading problems.

That has flown together, no pun intended and the thick sprue attachment issue is common to one or two of the recent new tool offerings from Airfix. I've built the new tool ME190E and Spitfire MkI/II kits and they both had the same very thick attachment points.
