iggie's riveting recreation ***FINISHED***
No piccies yet, but the beast is out of the stash and next to the bench, awaiting landing clearance once the Swordfish clears the runway
Mine is the Chematic re-boxing, which cunningly does not contain the decals necessary to recreate the aircraft shown on the box-art!!
I think I will go with the RAF version (St Mawgan) rather than the SAAF offering, and I have even found the Airwaves PE set that I bought to go with this kit; I usually forget I have them until after completing the intended recipient kit
I'm looking forward to getting a start on this, but less so to finding a home for the completed model as it won't fit in my cabinets

If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: iggie's riveting recreation
Ok, battle building has commenced!
This is the victim:
With instructions in a foreign language only.....
And progress so far:
I tried to replicate the diagonal yellow striping on the upper instrument panel using an eye-brow hair as a brush.....it didn't really work, but hey, it's one less to trim at the barber's next time (You youngsters just wait to see what age has in store for You)

Re: iggie's riveting recreation
Some progress!
You might notice the lump of lead alongside the nose; all this and more went inside to prevent tail sitting
More pics to follow, as I've now commenced painting
Rivets have been left intact; you never know when you'll need a Shackleton shaped file after all

Re: iggie's riveting recreation
This one is being done with a hairy stick! The garage was full of furniture (and a lot of sawdust!) I'm making for our Narrow boat at the time I needed to slap some paint on the Shackleton, so I couldn't get outside to spray her. Still, hours of fun making sure all the rivet heads got a good coveringMaverick231 wrote:Looking good Iggie!

Re: iggie's riveting recreation
So to bring things up to date with the progress so far:
Not a huge amount left now, but time is slipping away again so I will have to make a concerted effort to get this done over the weekend!
Thanks for looking in

Re: iggie's riveting recreation
I think you're making fair progress and I have to say I'm liking it with the rivets retained

Looking good iggie, you're nearly there, don't worry too much about time as the build doesn't finish until the 15th December.iggie wrote:Not a huge amount left now, but time is slipping away again so I will have to make a concerted effort to get this done over the weekend!

Re: iggie's riveting recreation
That's true, but I suspect work is going to interfere; all the signs are there for a hectic run-in to Christmas, plus I suspect I'm supposed to be doing something in the Tanks GB, and it's got a shed load of parts, plus PE as welllancfan wrote:Looking good iggie, you're nearly there, don't worry too much about time as the build doesn't finish until the 15th December.iggie wrote:Not a huge amount left now, but time is slipping away again so I will have to make a concerted effort to get this done over the weekend!

Oh and the 1:1 scale Narrow Boat is still on the go too..... Still, I'd only get bored without it all going on

Very neat work iggie. You've even got all those rivets in neat formation

They are totally unusable, certainly the walkway stencils so I'm now on hold waiting for some yellow stripe decals to arrive. ...
I may not make the finish line with this I'm afraid folks
Best wishes

Re: iggie's riveting recreation
This is a major problem with old kits iggie, I had to use Microscale 1/32" yellow stripes on my model. I hope your decals get to you in time.
