Re: The silliest modelling confession
I have never washed a kit before starting it. All this stuff about mold releasing agents!!!! pwah! Totally bogus!!! . Although I do wash my hands every time before I pick up a kit may help. I reckon that the amount of "said" kit release residue has been well and truly worn off by the time I've had me paws on it and paint is due. Just remember to clear out panel lines with a toothpick.
Brute force and ignorance wins every time.

e-bay + Alcohol = OOPS. enough said?
Not checking second hand kits purchased at model shows + not remembering which under table seller I bought it from!
That 'good idea for a build' impulse buy purchase that has sat in the stash for over 12 years unopened ever since.
Going to a model show with more cash than you can really afford to spend.
Is it any wonder I have over 600 unbuilt kits in the loft!!!
All the best.
Greg
ps. not my mistake but one worth the mention, a mate of mine managed to attach the wings onto a Matchbox 1/72 Lysander and didn't notice the mistake until I pointed it out and by that time he'd finished the model.

Don't sit modelling in a hotel room with an open bottle of coke to the right of your portable workbench and an open bottle of white spirit to the left. I picked it up and moved it toward my mouth. Thank goodness I didn't actually take a swig. Food + modelling is a bad idea.

Don't try to mop up or apply superglue with a cotton bud (Q tip). It starts a chemical reaction that causes the thing to smoke alarmingly. Luckily I always have a tub of water to hand at the bench so disaster was averted.
Luckily I still had that tub of water handy when I did it a second time.....

Not plastic models, but long ago I used to do RC...
I crashed a model Spit once, picked up the pieces and went home with it. I left the pile of parts on the living room table, not realising that the fuel residue dripping off the shattered wings would eat through the varnish.
Imagine the ass-kicking I got!!

Re: The silliest modelling confession
I know that one. A good few years ago I was watching 3 original boxings of the Airfix 1/72 Strikemasters all from the same seller but seperate listings. I had had quite a bit to drink that night (about half a bottle of Jack Daniels) and decided to put a bid on one of the listings. I somehow ended up not just bidding on one, but bidding on all 3.Gregers wrote:e-bay + Alcohol = OOPS. enough said?
I woke up the following day with a sore head and 3 Airfix Strikemasters to pay for. Luckily for me the total for all 3 was only about £20.
I no longer go on eBay after I have had a few.
Chris.

Bought an Airfix BR Mogul train at a show had the box opened so I could check the parts. Got home and realised there were no wheels!

Uhm, I remember a certain brilliant Camaro you built...Zee28 wrote:I have also never built any armoured vehicles or ships, in fact I've built nothing other than aircraft.
I've never built any armour! Suppose that's not so silly or unusual given my lack of interest in that specific subject.
The silliest modelling confession of mine should be this one: I've never airbrushed anything, allthough I have compressor, airbrush (two of them), spray booth all set up. I've had an airbrush in the house for maybe 8-9 years, but never used it.
