Alan,

Google didn't do me any good this time. However, I consulted with a knowledgeable colleague and he put us on the right track.

Westland WG30. Is it at W-S-M by any chance?

regards,

Martin

Well done Martin spot on, I thought the colours might confuse people as the a/c was painted for a tv series.

As you quite rightly spotted, it's the Westland WG30 at Weston-super-mare helicopter museum.

Martin, anyone. Is anyone going to put up a new ID pic?

All the best.

Greg,

Yep, it's my shout. Give me couple of days to research something suitably obscure.

I didn't get excited about it, coz noone was hassling me . . .

Time to revive this saga of "I know that, but...."

Bumped into this obscurity in recent charity shop find:

It has to be THE most unlikely creature of wood and fabric to take to the air. So, what is it, and why should CC.SIG be grateful to it...?

That's the Pemberton-Billing Quaduplane of 1917-ish. P-B later changed the name of the company to Supermarine and built flying boats, amongst other things...

Yes, and I think the importance to the CC SIG is it's long range/duration flight capability, it was a zeppelin patrol/fighter - although it might also be that it never went into production and thus there never was a model of it that we might have to include on our display ....

OK... I'll put you out of your misery! The PB.31 was the first aircraft to carry a searchlight aloft to illuminate its prey sliding through the grey gloom before targetting it. OK, it was a Zeppelin the PB.31 was after, not a U-boat (and the _Zeppelin_ could out-run the Heath-Robisnon hunter-killer), but it's the ancestor of the Leigh light...

Let's resurrect this thread...

What's going on here?

[Edit: a creative way of asking what the aircraft is]

It looks Duxford-ish...but a very small plane (or a very tall pilot!)
Best wishes
