Jeff's Duelers over the Reich***CNF***

To build a pairing of machines which would have had a dog-fight, which is the general term for fighter aeroplanes fighting each other. It does not include bomber interception, or missile attacks, but does include "dogfight" type combat of ships, AFV, Sci-Fi, etc.

Jeff's Duelers over the Reich***CNF***

Post by jssel »

My entry to the mix will be the Academy special addition Dogfight but I am applying a twist. I will substitute the P-51D for a kit you don't see much of around here. :ha: The Heller Spitfire Mk XVI. I have build at least three since joining this band of brothers. I mean, the Mk XVI no doubt encountered the 262. At least I know the Mk XIV did with 402 Squadron.

I notice this release of the Spit is nearly black plastic and the decal sheet has dark green codes.

These things are never easy.

So off we go in a couple of days. Oh......the P-51D is available with any one is interested.

Some progress this morning. I am a[starting out with the Heller Spit as it is relatively an easy build. What makes this one difficult is the black plastic. Can't wait to get some paint on it. Couple things I am doing here is making an in flight model so modifying the landing gear and not using the airscrew. The spinner was glued and the holes for the blades filled with sprue. Not sure if I will make a prop arc or not. Jagewa and James have great templates for that so will think it over.

I have carved on the seat to accept an Airfix pilot figure.

Closer examination of the decals showed way out of register so a quick order to Hannant's was made for an Xtracal sheet for Mk XVI's.

Jeff,

No doubt the Spitfire XVI encountered the 262. Jim Collier shot one down while serving with 403 Squadron. The bad news is that it was a high back XVI.

Thanks for that Jim. Well it would stand to reason a low-back at least encountered or mixed it up no doubt.

Things are going well with the Spit.

Johnny Pilot was rescued unused from the Defiant kit and will be used with this build. Sorry for the quality but I can only get so close with my point and shoot.

Now we have the main parts all together and when set up, the rubbing down will commence.

Photos this time were uploaded with the "in house" feature. It is quick and tidy.

Mine is going to be gear up. The wheels are a lot smaller than the wheel wells. Oh well, they are in place and that is that.
