Phil's Battlestar Galactica dogfight
Picked up these double kits over the last few months, the Cylon just Friday. They are from the newer series for those who don't know.
Cylon Raider. 11 parts plus the 2 piece stand.
Viper Mark II. 30 parts plus the same 2 piece stand. The Viper does include alternate parts for the landing gear up or down.
Heading to a contest in Boise on Saturday so figured I would see if I can get the Cylon done for that show.
From the time I cut the first piece off the sprue until assembled, 25 minutes. Hmm, good candidate for a Blitzbau.
Will need a little seam clean up and might need some putty but will see how far I go. Got to try that silver finish without my airbrush since I still don't have a paintbooth but have finally ordered one which may show up this week. We shall see. Will stick to my standard rattlecan finish with some masking for the odd panels or two.

Re: Phil's Battlestar Galactica dogfight
OK, done a bit more.
First up the Viper.
Painted up Lt. Kara Thrace, aka "Starbuck". Then stuck her in the completed cockpit.
For her flight suit I mixed a little Tamiya Gold Leaf (X-12) and Olive Green (XF-58) which came out surprisingly well. Then some Vallejo English Uniform (70.921) for her vest, some black for the gloves and boots and some Flat Aluminum (XF-16) for her helmet and the cuffs. There are even a couple patches that were decals added to the shoulders but you really can't see them.
Interior was Neutral Grey (XF-53) and some Semi Gloss Black for the seat. Then six more decals are added to the interior.
Then got the forward fuselage put together and sanded the seam. No putty so far (touch wood as you all say).
The Cylon had some fun looking gaps under the head so pulled out the Tulip White Fabric Paint. Applied that to the areas and let it set for a couple minutes then used a cotton swab to wipe off the excess. Simples.
After that dried I did a first for me. Painted the whole thing Gloss Black (Walmart brand rattle can) before starting the silver finish.
I picked up my new paintbooth today so I might invest in some Alclad metallics at some point but this one will probably still go the rattlecan route.
I am on the road to Boise tomorrow for their show on Saturday so no more work on these this weekend.

Enjoy the show. Is that Boise, Idaho you're off to?
I thought Starbuck was a man.
Unusual filler that fabric paint.
Both looking good so far.

Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Yep, Boise, Idaho. A little over a 5 hour drive so a close show.
Starbuck was a guy in the first series back in 1978.
When they did the reboot mini series back in 2003 Starbuck had changed.
I thank Brad Hair (Brad Hair Productions) who does a series of YouTube videos for introducing me to Tulip. Found mine at a local Walmart.

Re: Phil's Battlestar Galactica dogfight
Ok, yesterday I managed to give the Cylon a coat of Tamiya AS-12 Bare-Metal Silver.
Didn't come out too bad.
Will probably let this set another day then go in and mask a few areas for some additional metallics depending on what I have in stock.
So, guess will work on the Viper until then.

Re: Phil's Battlestar Galactica dogfight
A little more done on the Viper.
Main parts are connected, still need some putty work.
Wings are not glued yet. Their fit is a bit loose and didn't want to have one of the guns aimed up and out so waiting until the putty is done and sanded before I cement them in position.
The Cylon Raider is now complete.
Picked a few panels out in other metallics (hand painted) and then a black wash from Vallejo which dried a little thicker than I wanted but guess dodging some explosions.

That looks ace Phil, and a really different choice for a GB!
Best wishes

Thanks Iggie. I always aim to be a little different.
Thanks Toby. Will see how well the Viper comes out and then figure out some interesting way to display them.
