John's Svenska Tiger Moth *** färdiga ***

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

Bummer, I tried Google translate on the title and I guess there aren't Swedish words for "Tiger Moth".

Anyway, Airfix new-tool Tiger Moth.

Image

Dressed up in Swedish colors from 1932, compliments of Xtradecal sheet 72205 Tiger Moth Pt.3 Overseas Operators; I wanted something colorful and fun.

Image

I have an Eduard set for this, I probably won't use it, just build it and add rigging. I've built one of these already (see Bright & Cheery GB) so this should be low-stress.

Hi John.

That should be a stunner when done. Always liked that scheme.

All the best.

Very nice choice John. I must confess this Airfix release escaped me, never knew they did a new too Moth.

No pix, but today I got a coat of Tamiya rattle-can yellow over most the surfaces; I'll inspect it tomorrow and see if I like it as is or just use it as a primer and brush on some Vallejo instead.

I have a lot going on, so I'll be moving slowly, but I see no reason to not get done (that'll jinx me for sure).

Still time conflicts, I think I'm ready to put the cockpit in and close it up in next couple days.

Yes, finally. My apologies - I have not been able to devote much time to this and it seems any time I did something to record it was night and bad light in my room.

I think I mentioned I hosed the whole thing down with Tamiya rattle-can Yellow -- is seems to look close to photos

The interior is OOB plus tape seatbelts.

Image

The interior and fuselage are a very tight fit. I slightly opened the locator holes to get the fuselages to seal tightly without the interior, then went back and force-fit the interior. It needs a bit of sanding on the IP's, seatback/headrest, etc. And still required a minor amount of filler top and bottom once joined.

Image

I have some touch-up on the IP and interior where the yellow re-spray got loose and the wings may need a second coat - only the lower is shown here.

Regardless, the next step is to mask as needed and paint things red that need to be, may even do decals - then I'll go into assembly.

I'll try to be more timely with updates, but it could be every couple days ....

This was supposed to be a great day. After just over a week to get a small little biplane masked and painted, working carefully, allowing plenty of drying time, today the tape came off .... and assembly could start tomorrow ....

Image

 and I have some red overspray/leakage  and some liftoff of yellow, the first coat on  and of course it couldn't be on the nice flat wings, it had to be on the curvy fuselage

I am annoyed !!!

One of the certainties of making and painting. It's never the easy bits
Looks very colourful though.
