Yellow Wings P-26 *** Finished ***

Post by JohnRatzenberger »

Here are three candidates, I have many others. I believe a P-26 is lead candidate right now.

I'll be at a model show this weekend and need to graze in decals and paints.

And we'll start with the P-26.

Here's the parts from the early Revell kit.

Image

I also have some aftermarket from Starfighter -- photoetch rigging, cockpit & etc detailing, and decals.

Image

Here are the decal options -- the top left one is the same as the kit scheme but better quality. I think however I will go with one off the bottom row.

I have started with the cockpit detailing, although I'm going to be minimalist about it.

Working on the Starfighter interior ....

and wing parts ....

I am going to knock the raised rivets/lines down a bit.

Sorry, I'm still here .... been time-slicing and didn't do any photos, so we have leapt from the one above to fuselage together, wings on, and first coat of paint on same.

Image

I had issues with fit at the wing roots and I'm still not sure they are quite right - we'll see with paint on. Most of the raised detail is sanded off and the rest may disappear under paint.

Speaking of paint, I have drug out my last 3 bottles of PollyScale USAAC 'tween wars paint - great stuff but now history. Brush beautifully. Only issue I might have is that the yellow doesn't match the decal yellow and I might have to overcoat with a less orangey color. I am still debating on whether to do this with an OD fuselage or Blue -- it's a decision I can put off until I open the bottle ....

Looking good. That cockpit interior is worth it, given there is no canopy. I did some scratchbuilding on the interior of mine for that reason.

Blue was supposed to go on yesterday or today, but household interruptions and taping/spraying effort on the DH-9 shoved that to tomorrow.

OK, managed to get one coat of USAAC Blue on today ...

Image

Second coat should do it. It's really a crime that Polly Scale ... well never mind.

I think a light rubdown to be sure the paint is smooth then a gloss coat and start the decals.

Second coat of blue is on, looks good.
I had a small bleed under that must be fixed tomorrow then we move on to a gloss coat and decaling.

The short story is that it's all painted and a coat of future on -- I start decaling tomorrow.
