I pose this question to the peeps interested in this GB.

The original concept of the build was any AFV, any year excluding soft tops. Well stated but it would leave out some nice kits like the aforementioned M-18 Hellcat (which I would allow)and others with open tops.

Would there be any merit in including any AFV hard or soft topped as long it was on an original tank chassis?

I am not an armor expert by any means. My last armor piece was a WWII Biggengunnenbaginshootzen Mk IV and that broke all the rules.

Jeff, I think soft skinned normally applies to trucks and the like. The Hellcat is a tank with an open top so a bit different. I think armoured cars would be also classed as an AFV but a jeep with a 50 cal mounted would not imgo.
A Priest or Sexton is very much an AFV however I'd argue that a Ram with an mg mounted is not as that would be an APC.

Thanks for the clarification Toby. Sounds like if someone desired to build a Marder, let's say, that would fit in but a Steyr would not.

Clear as the mud on a Sherman suspension. :ha:

And oh yes, we will have fun.

Just to muddy the waters, the M-18 is not a tank, it is a tank destroyer (different doctrine & employment)- however it is an AFV.

An AFV is a vehicle, wheeled or tracked, with an armored body, that is not just sheet metal of a car or truck. Usually the armor would stop at least a heavy machine gun at some distance. The fighting means just that - it has weapons and is employed for offensive or defensive combat. An armored personnel carrier (APC) would be an AFV and that class of vehicle has morphed into the infantry fighting vehicle. So wheeled armored cars could be included, etc.

I would think you would allow about any of the above, but stop at the softskin car, truck, etc, even those beefed up (usually in the field) with slab armor and/or guns - i.e. gun trucks. I would be leery of self-propelled guns that tend to be rather more open than closed, but that's your call.

Or you could limit the scope to tracked vehicles, closed top vehicles, pure tanks - whatever you all want.
