An Airfix Angel GB?

Post by MerlinJones »

With the re-release of the Airfix Angel Interceptor, is there any interest in a Group Build of this particular kit?
Besides some basic accurising modifications, the model itself could lend itself to a wide variety of different schemes;

Red Arrows
Blue Angels
Thunderbirds
Frecce de Tricolori
Patrouille de France
Swedish splinter
USN '70's
US Aggressors
JASDF commemorative etc., etc..

...Or there's that conversion to a Joe 90 MiG-242.

I'd suggest a simple 4-week Build.
As with other GB proposals, I only need to know the number of positive responses.

Bruce

S.I.G.

I never managed to get my hands on one when I was a kid, so a different nostalgia build would be great.

I guess so as I intend to get one again. Though having done two all white models, using Halford's rattle cans, recently that were a PITA I need to go about painting it via a different method. Maybe Citadels Skull White Primer.

I am in if I can land one. I am thinking of a "Pixelated" scheme like the Marines F/A-18 Hornet.

I'd love to see how you achieve that paint scheme. ;-)

It was the mass of white that got me thinking about alternate schemes.
The design would also lend itself nicely to those colourful EE Lightning schemes of the 60's.

I'm planning on getting a few so I'm in. From what I've seen of the new decal sheet in Airfix Model World it's a vast improvement over the old one. The roundels are the correct colours and even the underside A is on the sheet.

As for colour schemes I've just started one that I've had in the stash for 26 years that I'll be finishing in Royal Navy markings left over from an Airfix SHAR.

Very cool - someone has obviously had a lot of fun doing that artwork and not all as far-fetched as one might think...when the F-14 started to draw near the end of its life perhaps a bit earlier than expected, there was a proposal to replace it with navalised Su-27s with US avionics and engines...and many years ago, I cam across a reference to a proposal to submit the EE Lightning as a contender for a US interceptor requirement (possibly the one filled by F-102 or 106) in much the same way as the Canberra had tried out for the tactical attack role and became the B-57...

So we have 7 to play...shall we go sooner, rather than later...or not?

Something to do whilst the masses enjoy Telford without me?

Frecce tricolori...

Please, what is this Angel interceptor ? It's from an old Gerry Anderson serie, isn't true ? Never seen in Italy... The only Anderson's puppet's series i remember are 'Stingray' and 'Thunderbirds'.
