2014 D-Day Anniversary GB ** Completed **

Post by lancfan »

Next year marks 70 years since the Normandy Beachhead. Do we want a GB to mark this?

There are loads of subjects:
Royal Navy Destroyers, the massive RAF and USAAF air cover and ground attack operations, the beachhead itself and the wide variety of vehicles and aircraft used by both sides, anyone want to attempt a Mulberry?

David.

There's a great 1:35 dio of Mulberry in the D-Day museum at Arromanches.
I might well be up for this. I have visited and have some photos of some of the defences overlooking the beaches and casemates further inland and would be more than interested in a 1:76 dio using some Airfix plastic soldiers. Sounds like fun!

Over a year from now!

There are some key battles that are hitting 70 this year, Kursk which is on, Tarawa (november of 43), the battles for Sicily and the landings in Italy proper and Italian surender!

Absolutely, we should do something. A 79th Armoured Division "funny" maybe, or a glider, or a Dakota, or ....:)

Oh yes. Very doable. Finish up on the day. Lots and lots of subjects.

Actually we should plan to end the GB on 5 June, then take a 1-day extension. :)

I would definately be in for that next year, I may cross over into armour for this, in memory of partners Grandad who was killed in action there.

Most appropriate - D-Day is too big an event to miss!
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Work is the curse of the modelling classes!

I'd be in - My great, great uncle was in the SAS and died in Normandy. I'm not sure if it was on D-day but it wasn't long after. I'd do a tribute to him.

An airfix Stirling and Horsa Glider maybe?
Stuart Templeton I may not be good but I'm slow...
