The CAD work for the 1/48 can't simply be scaled down as plastic parts can only be made so thin. I was told that to do it in 1/72 would require starting again from scratch. Doesn't mean they won't do it eventually but not in the near future.
My money's on a Scimitar, probably in 1/48 and the Defiant in 1/72.

Tom, all their drawing work including research and general arrangement seems to be CAD, (hence the mess up over the Mustang tailplane) that and the external appearance 'skin' of the kit would probably just need scaling down, things like very small detail parts, wall thickness and sprue patterns would need looking at and although everything would need going over I don't think they would 'start fom scratch' as you or I understand that to mean. Also salepersons aren't usually engineers so consider, do they really know or are they just giving you an easy answer?
