What sort of display do we want to do for Telford this year?

Its easy enough to do a representative map, with UK/French coast to one side, possibly Iceland/Greenland peeking in at the top, and showing lats and longs. Convoy routes and aircraft ranges could be marked with coloured tape, as in wartime plotting charts. Also, as with wartime plotting charts, its easy enough to create flag-type markers representing aircraft/bases/U-boats/ships, etc, to place next to models.

The backcloth can be made with fabric, large enough to cover any size table up to Telford size - and easily folded for smaller spaces without losing the essentials. All easy enough to do - you tell me what you want, I'll make it.

I for one think that is a very generous offer Paul and I would like to take you up on it  It'll be a huge benefit to the SIG for all displays not just for Telford. I also think that what you've suggested detail wise will be spot on, does anyone think we should have any other elements added to it?

That sounds really good Paul. Can we take it too that you will be over again this year to assist in its inaugural outing ?

Is it worth making name labels for everything you have built now and thinking ahead to what you may get to add in to display over next year

Depending on how much work Paul is up for...

When I worked at Focus, in June '94 we did a big "dossier" on D-Day. For that, we had a pull out gatefold with a widescreen painted panorama of Gold Beach on one side, and on the other a world map showing all the main battle zones and what was going on... D-Day, obviously, but also Russia, Italy, Burma and the Pacific. We did it by using a sort of magnifying glass effect, like the one that shows the little Gaulish village holding out against the Romans at the beginning of every Asterix book. It could allow a "zoom" on certain areas like the Bay of Biscay, Gibraltar, Norway and GIUK Gap. On the other hand it might be too complicated and not add much value!

Bestest,
M.

Before getting too carried away with this - it needs to be remembered tht unless Paul is coming over here for a sabbatical and building it in England, whatever he does has got to be posted or carried as part of his luggage when visiting

I'll send it airmail, Chris, so it'll be as compact as I can make it - weight is the deciding factor. It'll be slightly larger than a king bed sheet, so it won't be too outrageous.

And of course I will contribute to the postage cost Paul

A kind offer, Tom, but don't worry about it. ;-)
