Let's try another round with Postimage

So, as James refers to, I'm trying to tie in my additions with the sparse detail on the kit.

First the new deck got fitted.

Then I needed to make a pair of white radomes. Mrs Dazzled's sewing box came to the rescue here and a pair of pins with white plastic heads were donated to the cause.

A quick chop with the side cutters and a couple of short lengths of painted brass tube and....

They look quite effective fitted, particularly with a handrail around them.

And then it was time for the life raft canisters and a coat of Klear.

I took the picture in my spray booth which, I've found, doubles nicely as a photo booth :)

Other than that I am getting on with other bits like the helicopter but as this is being painted with enamels progress is very slow.

Just leaving everything to dry now and I hope to get the decals, all 3 of them, on before bedtime.

What scale is the fence? Is it for a GB?

Modelling time has been a bit less plentiful over the last few days and it's only going to get more rare as I start a new job on Monday, building and assessing prototype aircraft seats. Best thing is, I didn't even apply for it. I had a telephone call from a nice lady who said they'd been passed my CV and were impressed and would I like to come in for a chat. I had the chat on Wednesday and was offered the job on Thursday.

That should help put my nightmare time working for British Airways firmly in the past :)

Now, back to models.

I did slip in to the Den on a few occasions. My time has been consumed with a couple of parts of the build in particular. The helicopter is just taking forever to get marked up and in a position where I can put it together. I thought I'd have to order decals but I found a sheet I had left over from my 1/350th Washington Class sub. If I cut the remaining submarine names up, I'll be able to get "Royal Navy" for each side

My other focus has been handrails, ladders and nets.

Time consuming work but IMHO well worth it.

I've also been toying with the stand.

It's OK but I'm not entirely happy with it. I think I might replace the slipway blocks with smaller ones when I have time.

And that's about it for the moment. There's still a few things to do. A couple of small Oerlikons need to be added near the foremast, there's rigging and aerials to go on and, of course boats and the helicopter. I had hoped to have had this finished for the Coventry show on Sunday but as I've promised tomorrow to a friend who needs his car repaired this is looking unlikely.

Still, I should have it finished sometime this week and be able to take it to Weston on the following Sunday. 8-)

As an addendum to my last update the decal idea was a dismal failure. Apart from getting constantly mislaid due to their small size, the decals had a fondness for disintegrating :frown:

The Dom's Decals roundels did, however, go on nicely and I built and attached the 'copter. My predictions of a non-finish by Sunday may have been a little pessimistic too.

Finished photos soon 8-)

Boy, was I wrong about not finishing. It just all seemed to come together quite quickly this afternoon. Still not happy about the helicopter decals but I'll order some from Hawk Graphics and have a go at retro fitting them when they arrive.

And that's a wrap 8-)

That's a stunner. What a difference the etch and your care have made to that old Airfix kit.
