Tim's Red Arrows Hawk

From 1 April 1918, to present, celebrating anything RAF -- land, sea, air, person -- any kit, any scale, not whiffs. This GB incorporates the 617 Sqn/Opn Chastise 75th GB. Originally a 3 month GB, it is now super-extended through the rest of 2018. Part started kits will also be allowed to join.

Tim's Red Arrows Hawk

Post by TimJ »

I thought that no RAF GB could be complete without the Red Arrows putting in an appearance so I'll be building this.

That’s a box full of red plastic! I’m going to be watching closely, as I have a Gnat I’d like to do in the Arrows livery.

You are very right, Tim and it's good to see a representative of the 'arrers being built. I love the Hawk as a subject but loathe red plastic or any bright coloured plastic come to think of it, including white. I much prefer a neutral grey for my model parts!

Nice addition to the GB and as you say it wouldn't be complete without them so I may just cracking into a Gnat to help you wave the red white and blue!

Wow. I've never seen a box of red plastic like that before. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.

I have, but not since I made my old tooling Airfix Red Arrows Gnat T.1 way back when... :) Oh, yes, and the Airfix Fokker Dr.I, too. We won't count the Monogram "Red Baron" Fokker that they released to go with the yellow Sopwith Camel piloted by Snoopy.

The 1/32 Revell Hawk is pretty much the same, just as red but bigger!

And why is is that even though its going to be painted red, red plastic is the worst possible stuff to cover? :???:
Best wishes

I agree about the red plastic, I'd prefer grey plastic myself.

I began with the cockpit interior which has been assembled apart from the seats. I used the supplied IP decals as I find it easier than trying to paint them.

The wings have also been assembled after I painted the wheel bays.

Good to see this off to a start, Tim. I also prefer decals for instrument panels in 1/72nd (although it has to be said that some decal sets are better than others!) as achieving nice, neat, instruments in this scale is usually beyond my meagre brush painting capabilities!
