Shane's ' Red Arrows Gnat .

From 1 April 1918, to present, celebrating anything RAF -- land, sea, air, person -- any kit, any scale, not whiffs. This GB incorporates the 617 Sqn/Opn Chastise 75th GB. Originally a 3 month GB, it is now super-extended through the rest of 2018. Part started kits will also be allowed to join.

Shane's ' Red Arrows Gnat .

Post by shangos70 »

Back at the start of this group build my plan was to build both the Vampire and Gnat, however various things got in the way and the Vampire took many months to get off the bench.
I had done some basic priming and painting on the Gnat but then lost interest.
As it's almost Halloween and the dead walk again , I have decided to resurrect this build.
Having previously done the Yellowjacks version I knew that the fit could be iffy around the intakes and too much paint / primer could make the cockpit a squeeze pushing out the fuselage. Anyway, I have fettled and sanded and managed a good fit although priming will highlight any foul ups.
As it stands the office is in, fuselage joined and the main wings on. I do have a Master brass pitot as the kit one had snapped on the sprue, I will need to squint to drill the .4 hole for it. It will be built wheels up and mounted on a stand with the Yellowjacks one.
Pics tomorrow when the light is better.

Excellent, it's good to see that this build has been resurrected, Shane.

Thanks guys, no pics to show as yet. Currently trying to fill a few stubborn seam lines without breaking off the underside aerial.

A busy week with work as cut short any bench time. The main parts are together, I need to paint the crew and mask the canopy before a light coat of primer.

I did get some progress on this, the airframe is complete with just the canopy to mask and crew to paint before any exrerior painting. I will complete it in my workbench thread.
