CBK "The Civilians" Show Report
With my carrier and suitcase stuffed with kits (mine and majoratively Matt's), cloths and other paraphernalia, I arrived on time at Telford Station at 3pm after taking tree trains starting from Huddersfield at midday. I made it to the venue to find a large slow moving queue for exhibitor passes, but within moments Ratch appeared and we had a good natter as we shuffled forward. Once inside "Stalwart" Iain was already at the table and we set about opening the dozen or so small boxes that the cars and trains were packed in. I didn't have any idea how much space we would use up and was heartened to find that I had about enough kits with me to make the table look not empty. The night before I had printed off some road sections I found online and sent word to TeeELL if he had any "noddy" track sections. I had only struck on the idea of using the Art Deco posters a couple of nights before the show and was pleased how the very cheap banner of three A4 pieces of card looked.
Further contributions which beautifully fleshed out the display came from:
Iain, Sprit of St Louis
TeeELL, Touro and MGB
Shane, Shorts and BD-## helo
Greg, Concorde and MD (?)
FredK, silver Boeing Clipper, camouflaged Boeing Clipper, Ford Tri-motor one 'flying' Tiger Moth, Comet
Eric, Comet
Ou rusual space on the thoroughfare tween Halls 1 and 3 landed us plenty of traffic and we had a loads of people looking, photographing and stopping for chat. This continued through the quieter Sunday too. The Boxkite did get a lot of attention (thanks Gordan for reminding me to put the wheels on!) but so did many of the other models. Matt's Escort and TR4 being particular favourite. The trains got a huge amount of attention more than when we went completely loco and did a full layout. I count the display as a resounding success and was only disappointed that it wasn't possible to man the table around the clock.
Friday night was the traditional blow out in the Wetherspoons with the fantastic company from Nostalgic and Cold War SIGs. Somehow we swung a table big enough for us all in a busy pub on a Friday night. I had planned to sleep at my parents, an hour away by train, but a late running train a Telford meant I was going to miss a connection and not get there past my bedtime. Tom came to my rescue and I shacked up with him for the night at his hotel*. I'll let you guess at the banter that went on that night and preceding morning none of it fit for publication!
Thanks to Cold War SIG for constant supply of vino, and fine cheese and bread through Saturday. I had a good route around and came away with a couple of kits for myself and two more for my daughter for ~$20, paint was the only other think I needed to stock up on. Wondering around I bumped into a few familiar faces from other modelling communities, who asked after Matt and past on their regards. Didn't see the comp, as usual but tried to get round most of the branches and SIGs.
Packed up and on back on the trains at five, through door by eight and helping to put the kids to bed as soon as I got my shoes off!

A fine collection of models.

Am awesome display folks. Many thanks to James for doing the organising, ChrisM for sorting the logistics after IPMS sent her the passes etc by mistake and all who contributed this year.
The Concorde was donated to the sig a while back, sorry but I can not remember who donated it so if it is yours please let us know. The DC9 I sent was mine but it got a little worse for wear after the last show it was at so I will re-build it when I get it back. There was an Airfix Aston Martin DB5 in the box I sent but not sure what happened there?
All in all a stunning effort folks, Thank you.
All the best.
Greg

A great looking display and an excellent show report, James. I'm glad to see the locos getting their share of comments from the punters and I've noticed during my own attendances at Telford and Huddersfield/Halifax that well built CBK cars always attract favourable attention.

Re: CBK "The Civilians" Show Report
Great report James. Thanks for making the CBK display such a success. I was gutted not to be able to get to SMW, even as a visitor, this year but was actually driving myself and my wife home from a family visit in Aberdeenshire back to Derby - the suggestion of taking a detour via Telford was not well received!. I'm determined to make it next year and to contribute in spades to the CBK display, whatever the theme turns out to be.
Cheers
Al.
