Airfix Vosper MTB
Airfix Vosper MTB
Hi - here is my reworking of the old Airfix Vosper MTB. The first time I built this kit I was still wearing short trousers and the model seemed huge. A lifetime later and it is really quite tiny. The mold quality is fair to average and any thoughts of an OOB model soon vanished. I tend to get overly bogged down in detailing the models I build using the internet for references but there is surprisingly little imagery concerning this type of MTB and most of that is low resolution. Being too mean to spend another thirty quid on reference books I decided to build a generic boat and take artistic licence with the paint scheme.
The hull assembly needs a fair bit of persuasion.
All gaps filled.
Cabin rebuilt from scratch. A few parts are original but all are modified - wind deflector, cable duct, buttresses .
I wanted to avoid using aftermarket parts but relented with these superb barrels.
The torpedo rests were removed and replaced.
Life rafts rebuilt.
Boat hooks replaced.
Mast scratch built from brass rod.
Painted, weathered and rigged. Lifebelts and rudders to finish.

Beautiful work, Alan. Saved for future reference.

I know the feeling!
I last built the MTB when I was 11, so maybe I should have a go at another one.

Re: Airfix Vosper MTB
Best build of this Airfix oldie I've seen. I'm another who can end up with very lengthy builds through adding detail to old kits, but for me that's where the fun is. Very well done with this one.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Many thanks again - I’m standing on the shoulders of modelling giants but there is something very satisfying about reworking an old kit and breathing new life into it.

I have this same kit in standby for the same purpose. I have copied your pix for inspiration
