Re: IBG 1/72 Scammell Tank Transporter
I have found that IGB have supplied the TT tractor with their ‘Pioneer’ wheel set (13.5x20). The Scammell TT tractor unit had larger rear wheels (15x20) in order to cope with the weight of the trailer and load. I have contacted them. Ironically, one of the best reference guides for the various ‘Pioneer’ based vehicles is Polish.

Re: IBG 1/72 Scammell Tank Transporter
Really disappointing that IBG have supplied 1300x20 tyres all round. I will start to wonder what else they have got wrong! Still, I must press on.

Try contacting someone like Ian Hanratty at Wee Friends / Friendship models he is the sort who has a small business and could knock some of them out as he tends to do 1/76 stuff

Re: IBG 1/72 Scammell Tank Transporter
Thanks Chris,
I’ve been looking at that but, as you say, they are 1/76 and whilst that works for the Airfix TT it doesn’t for the 1/72 IBG. What I need is someone who can create 3 ‘tyres’ that can replace those supplied. One for the pair for the front of the tractor one for the 2 pairs for the rear and one for the trailer wheels.

Cheers for that excellent review
That looks like a really nice but possibly slightly over detailed kit, I need to keep an eye out for one of those.

Splash,
it certainly is well detailed but their failure to note the difference with tractor tyre sizes is very disappointing. But I am working on it!

I must say that my interest in small scale armour and vehicles is being given a bit of a boost with these new releases.
We had a modeller in our club many years ago that made models in this scale. They really were beautiful, and each one on a scratch built scenic base.
In the end, he sold them all to a collector.
I have been buying some Zvesda releases for the Dunkirk period. Their little figure sets are beautiful. I have a few vehicles to go with them.

So many models, so little time.

Re: IBG 1/72 Scammell Tank Transporter
Today I received a full set of wheels for the IBG Tank Transporter. They are the correct sizes all round as all the IBG wheels/tyres are a fraction too small. I will be continuing the IBG build shortly. (I also received a complete set for my next Airfix TT).

Re: IBG 1/72 Scammell Tank Transporter
It has been 2 1/2 years since I wrote about this IBG model. I stopped when I realised the trailer was wrong for the era I model, being the same ‘third iteration’ of the TRMU-30 type, which didn’t enter service until the latter part of 1943.
Some of you will be aware that I have been working on enhancing and correcting some of the errors of the Airfix kit and building a resin version. I did wonder if the IBG model might also benefit from ‘improvements’ but, truth to tell - the tractor unit is so wrong it just isn’t worth it. You will have read about the ‘walking beams’ and undersized tyres for the rear of the tractor well, yesterday I compared the width of the 1:72 IBG cab with the 1:76 Airfix - the IBG is 1mm narrower! It gives the cab a ‘pinched look’ or pointed look.
As far as I am concerned, this model is a serious disappointment for a kit crafted in the last 3 years, there is no excuse for the errors by the designers at IBG.
My kit is going into the bin.
