Lancfan's Aichi Seiran Conversion- FAIL, Late Finish
I thought the last blitzbau Saturday was too good a chance to miss so after a rummage in the stash I dug out the old Aoshima 1/72 kit of the Aichi Seiran submarine based seaplane bomber- I wonder, could it be collectable?

New one on me. I remember either a Fw190D9 or Ta152H but not that one.

Whether or not it is rare there will be one kit less in the world after the 30th!

All kits should be built. That is why they were moulded.

If they were it would've taken an awful lot of them looking at the size of that bombDH-Drover wrote:Were these a/c intended to bomb the Panama Canal?

Jeff, I do agree and yes they were Dai- here are the Wikipedia links to the story of the Seiran and the I-400 class submarines.

There is one in the National Air and Space Museum in D.C. The sole survivor. Seems like you can have any color you like as long as it is Japanese Navy Green. But I have heard of a trainer orange one.

I have the Tamiya kit of the Smithsonian machine which will be built at a more sedate pace at some point.

Here is the Smithsonian bird. Picture from my recent visit earlier this month.
I have seen images that they would have been painted in NMF and had US markings on them to try and confuse any defenses during their attack. Not sure if any were actually marked that way or not.

As I already have the excellent Tamiya kit of this I decided that even as a blitz subject this will be a waste of a kit, so when gathering images and plans for this build I found plans for the landplane trainer of the same aircraft the Nanzan so this will now be a conversion of the Seiran kit into a Aichi Nanzan trainer.

I have checked the parts against the plans & photographs and the Tamiya kit and have worked out a plan of action for this build, The undercarriage parts and a propeller (the kit one being missing) have been dug out of the spares box. As before the build starts when the alarm clock sounds at 10.00 AM.

Oh I very much hope so. Nothing pleases me more that thinking of a 'Collector' seeing this is a few months time & having a tantrum.lancfan wrote:I wonder, could it be collectable?
