Miguelito's F-86 August 29 - It's FINISHED
I'm going to give it one more try before the end of the month...this time the attempt will be made with the Hasegawa kit (packaged as AMT).
Beautiful cover art...
...although I wonder why the pilot is looking to his left, when there are two Migs crossing behind him.
I don't plan on using the missiles or drop tanks for this one...
...and the wheel wells, and cockpit are pretty bad, but I'm going with a straight out of the box build. The decals are shot, so I'll swing by the local hobby shop tomorrow at lunch. I think I remember seeing a couple sheets of F-86 decals in 1/72 last time I was in there.

Interesting kit. I'll be watching.

No luck at the LHS with decals for this one. I'm pretty sure I have the insignia "in stock" at the house, but I'll have to paint the yellow/black band and some other details, so get this one where I'd like it to be. Should be interesting.

Re: Miguelito's F-86 August 29 - It's ON
Well, I decided to start this earlier than planned thinking that I was going to need more time in the beginning to handle seams, flash, and trying to fix a poor model.
I was right. The kit is in pretty poor shape. I'll be building this gear up since the wheel wells don't exist and the model has you attaching the gear doors to the outside of the plane. Air brakes will be posed closed as well. The cockpit detail is a pilot, and not a very good one at that...
...he looks like he's being held hostage. The fuselage is together and here is where I stopped for dinner after about an hour and a half.
Fuselage is together pilot ready to be put in his office, then I'll work on seams and get the wings together, then onto priming. Wish me luck, I'll need it.

That is surprisingly poor detail from a Hasegawa kit. A PM kit I bought once was just as bad but it only cost a couple of pounds [$3]

Its not just how good your painting is, its how good the touch-ups are too.

Wasn't some Hasegawa kits ex-FROG?. I was going to comment that painting the theater bands would probably be the best anyway. Night time over here so will check in later

Not sure if it's a repackaging of a FROG, but it was packaged and distributed as an AMT/Hasegawa kit. I'll definitely be painting the bands and using a hodge-podge of decals and lettering. The ones that came in the box are pretty useless.jssel wrote:Wasn't some Hasegawa kits ex-FROG?. I was going to comment that painting the theater bands would probably be the best anyway. As I mentioned earlier, the fuselage fit was (is) terrible, but surprisingly the wings went on pretty effortlessly.
Here's a picture, before I sealed up the cockpit.
Here it is almost ready for primer...
Here's a shot of the underside. The little white spots of filler are where the land gear and gear doors were supposed to go...over the details of the closed gear wells and doors.
A little more clean up and "fine tuning", then I should be able to get the first coat of primer onto it tonight.

As you can see, the details are all raised, so I'm going to lose quite a bit with this fill, sand, prime, repeat process. Still lots of paint and decal work left to do once the seams are filled.

That is coming along very well. I too am having issues with raised panel lines.

It does look a bit basic but you're making good progress with it.
