My first Star Trek kit ever!

The Take-2 repop of the AMT 1/2500 set.

Image

Only 13 parts for the kit. No stand.

Image

The moulds are in good condition, no flash or sink marks. It's snap fit, but I will be glueing it. The decal sheet is nice.

Image

It goes together very quickly. The only parts with a significant fit issue are the nacelle pylon piece, which doesn't fit into the secondary hull well, and the fit of saucer section to the secondary hull.

Image

Image

The other issue is the big sensor array. The dish looks too deep and the piece behind it does not blend in well with the secondary hull.

Image

A touch of putty and a bit of primer and all seems to be okay.

cheers

Andrew

I did not get a smooth enough finish with the brush painted primer, so I peeled it off (it's acrylic, so it forms a skin on the plastic) and used the airbrush to prime it instead.

Meanwhile I also assembled the Klingon Battlecruiser in about 20 minutes.

The fit is pretty good, but the engine nacelles and bridge do need to be glued - they are definitely not snap fit.

I watched an old episode of Star Trek with Graham tonight, while fettling the Romulan Warbird

Image

This is the simplest of the three kits, with only 4 pieces, but it's also the one with the worst fit. The two engines fit alright, but the upper to lower hull fit is bad and results in a very obvious join line right around the top of the hull. As the hull is supposed to be silver, this is bad news!

After Graham went to bed, I managed to do the painting on the Enterprise. Red Bussard collectors on the front of the engines, white for the bridge dome, old brass for the deflector dish mount. Everything else is done with decals.

Just the decals to do on this kit.

cheers

Andrew

You know, I never realised that these kits were quite so small. They certainly look like an eyesight tester Andrew.

There aren't many parts, and if you can manage 1/72 aircraft stencils, then you can handle the decals!

Very small indeed, yes. But a nice little build. Don't both snap fitting it, glue everything!

These are the varnishes of the starship Enterprise...

Image

First matt to tone down the glossy parts over the decals. Then satin (both Vallejo varnishes, naturally).
It's varnish Jim, but not as we know it.

Very nice Andrew. They certainly belie their diminutive size.

I still have to design a stand for them. There's a Romulan ship in the works too. Only one decal on so far - but it's the one that counts:

Meanwhile, somewhere in the Kitchentable system, the USS Enterprise is squaring off against a Klingon D-7 Battlecruiser.

I finally got some materials to make a stand, as none is provided in the kit. I haven't put all the decals on the Romulan ship yet. I have another base for that. This one is a piece of laser cut plywood from Michael's craft store. Only $1.50. :)

That's nice work. Must fish some of mine from the loft sometime. I have about six of each so a full on battle scene might be in order!!.

Very nice and possibly the smallest scale models in the universe Mr Spock......

Sensors would seem to confirm that assumption Captain and logic dictates that in 1/72nd scale they would not fit into the average home of the 21st century.....

Thank you for that Mr Spock, get us out of here Mr Sulu....
