While image searching for something completely unrelated I spotted a papermodel of a WW2 Willys Jeep....
Which led me to this site, which is a new one to me.
http://papermau.blogspot.co.uk/;

And no - I wasn't searching for "WW2", "Willys", or "Jeep"
I was actually looking for a picture of a 'Pronto' brand watch issued to Brazilian Army officers during the 1960s
Still a bit flummoxed as to why a search for "pronto watch brazil army" brought up an image of a Jeep Cardmodel..?? :???:

Oodles of free to download models linked from a blog - Because it's a blog format there's a lot of random stuff gets added, and browsing the pages is a bit of a chore - Though there's a search function if you scroll down quite a bit (on the right of the page)

Here's the Jeep model BTW.
http://papermau.blogspot.co.uk/2013/06/ ... my_15.html;

edited to add:
Looking through the site... some models are by independent designers, and are linked to upload sites such as 'Depositfiles' etc. - Others are linked to the original site where the model is hosted.

Great find...The Papermau blog site has some really interesting but usually quite simple models of an eclectic range of subjects...just two days ago it released a simple single-sheeter that some of those yet to join our happy band of cutters and folders might want to have a crack at...

The site that hosts the Heuy, Dewey and Louie models from Silent Running that James is building has an eclectic range of mostly simple models for anyone that is still fence-sitting...come on in the water's fine...

I have been following the Paper Model GB and really like the results so far. I may have to turn to the paper side of the force, however, I hope I am not in the wrong place to ask:- are there sites that are better than others or that you trust? Even after using iTunes for a couple of years I'm still nervous about downloading things!. There are some models I would like but need to be sure about the places I am getting them from.
Thanks,
Mark. :grin:
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!! :lol:

Simon would be the best person to ask because this is his realm. For me I've downloaded models from all over the web without an issue. The ones I stay away from are any site that wants to download and install a client first or asks for money. By asking for money I mean for the service to download not for the price of a kit. Otherwise its a non issue for me.

A lot of good sites and links have been posted here all of which are safe

Hi Mark

Pretty much what Dirk said...

For just starting out, some good sites are:

Fiddlers Green http://www.fiddlersgreen.net; which (I think) still lets you download three models when you sign up with them - they are good starters and you can see how Jeff is going with their Colditz Glider in the GB.

http://www.landships.info; Go in under the models tab. These are also good first paper models - you can see Splash's build of one of them in the GB - although a bit more complex and they need a bit more thinking (but nothing beyond the average UAMFer).

http://www.paper-replika.com; and http://www.myhobbycraft.blogspot.com; both have a large ranges of models across a range of topics - some like the large Gundam and Transformers robots are pretty complex so you might want to start with one of the more simpler ones just to get the hang of the differnet paper modelling techniques first.

If you join up at http://www.papermodelers.com;, and contribute to the forums, you will be able to access the download library there - check out the models by a guy named Gary Pilsworth: they cover a range of subjects and are very buildable...

To the best of my knowledge, all the links posted in this thread and within the GB are legitimate and generally OK to download from...please be aware that there are a number of other legitimate appearing sites that are actually hosts for pirated models i.e. those that are actually commercially available that these sites are distributing for free which is illegal and we would discourage builds of any such kits in the GB.

There are also a number of European online retailers that stock a very large range of preprinted paper models which could be in your mail box in only a few days...these include http://www.gpm.pl;, http://www.wak.pl; and http://www.kartonmodellshop.de/;.

To a large extent paper modelling is like plastic modelling in that one should be a bit wary of being lured in by flash cover art only to discover the original Airfix Tiger Moth in the box...if you have an inquiries about a given preprinted model or publisher, ask about it in this thread and I will see what feedback i can give you. Generally anything published in the last 6-7 years will be pretty good...

I get that a lot...usually the question is along the lines of "Are you responsible for...?"

For anyone that wants to ignore the advice about starting simple, check out these posts for links to some high-end and legally free downloadable paper models...

There are so many to be had. I like the paper subjects because it allows me to build subjects not available in styrene or is just too expensive. It can also be used to accent styrene kits in dios

I have returned....

My planned four days off last week didn't quite pan out and I ended up having quite an intense week and have only just gotten home again...plan for tonight is sleep then re-engage in the GB tomorrow...I had tried to keep up with my phone but it is either too small or I am too dumb...it's looks like some impressive progress has been made in my absence though and I need to play some serious catch up...

Last day, and I'll not make it -- too many holiday events and other things.

So, how about letting this run into the weekend, maybe Sunday the 28th ? My calendar is pretty much empty except Christmas dinner with friends and trips to the gym to work off some holiday excesses so I can finish up my two.
