All I got done, with all the meetings & things, was to put the promenade sides on.

I'm glad I jumped ahead to do this because I botched it, had to slice it back off, print another copy and put it on right. If I had started putting on the deck stuff I might have had a bigger mess.

Anyway, on to the deck stuff next .....

And here we are with most the deck houses on.

Some of the detail parts were very small. A couple deck houses weren't very tall. These were difficult to fold well and I think I should have simply printed on plain paper, maybe doubled over, to get cleaner, sharper edges. It'll do, but next time ....

So, I am about to start on the cranes and some other deck details ....

Yeah...some of these publishers, especially in smaller scales, could be a little more illuminating on the paper weights that work best for various parts. A handy trick for small thin paper parts is to cut them out and them soak them in CA (I use the cheap tubes of tin CA from the $1 shop). This will make them a lot stronger and resistant to warping...

I should/could have figured it out myself so I don't blame the publisher that much - I just got a bit lazy, and most my color ink cartridges are empty ...

I really think I am going to do this again, but blown up to at least 1/600 as mentioned in one of my early posts. That'll give me a chance to improve on my "test run" and a finished model I can actually see

Another lost couple days, but today I got the cranes on.

A couple more steps and I'm into the lifeboats .... need to step up the pace a bit, I think.

Here are a few details added to the fore and aft decks.

Next step is the funnels, which I have cut out and ready to assemble tomorrow.

I'm falling behind, I not only have the boats but also the guns to do - quite a bit of work and I may need a couple extra days. Although the rail coach interior is close to done so that will help.

As an aside from this very interesting build, there is a very good documentary on youtube that supports some compelling evidence that the ss. Oylmpic lies at the bottom of the Atlantic as she was substituted for the ss. Titanic, well worth a watch

There's a book called 'Titanic: the ship that never sank', that covers the same thing. Whether or not you believe it it's an interesting read none the less.

 I never heard this before. I just Googled and found a few forums discussing this.

I'll go back to building the Titanic now .... I mean that's what my model of the Olympic is based on, so it must all be true.

BTW, I had to do a conference call last night & spent the time cutting out all the lifeboats

Back at work - that's good news as that the funnels are now done.

Image

The bad news is that I spent that conference call Sunday night cutting out all the wrong lifeboats. No excuse, simply not paying attention. Anyway, stiff upper lip, nose to grindstone .... YUCK !!

78 lifeboats later ....

And they don't add much to it - they are small, hard to form, and I did a lousy job - and then I simply didn't bother to trim them up a bit. The placement instructions aren't exact and neither the number nor camo-colors match up. My fun meter pegged.

Anyway, I still have 8 guns to build and mount, the two masts which are built, some rigging and maybe some edge touch-up.

One more day, please, then I really am done ....
