Here's the link to the original article on 'necroscoping'....I couldn't post it last night as my tab doesn't work and play well with the search function at papermodelers.com...

That is where I went wrong, I am using bog standard water based PVA.

I have built up the command module parts;

And cut out the parts for the helmsman and navigator station console:

Once these are together I will add them to the sunken deck.

The command module has been fitted into the sunken deck, and the helmsman and navigator station console has been built up and attached:

The next step is to build the steps and attach those.

Steps have been built up (I forgot to take progress photos :roll: ) and attached:

Next is the raised deck railings built up from these:

I love the way this has been laid out, it is really easy to follow and fits together nicely. I am really enjoying this. :grin:

It looks like a well thought out kit so far.

I wonder if the original Enterprise Bridge was written as being round or was it a limitation on the cost and studio space available at the time.
My work bench is starting to look like Portsmouth Naval Dockyard.

While not conversations that I follow that closely, Splash, from online chat re the shuttle designs being cost-driven, I think it would be safe to assume the bridge was guided by similar philosophies...at the time, the whole Star trek concept was probably a huge risk for the studio so they would not have been wanting to toss too much cash into something that might not fly...

The railings have been put together;

And attached to the raised deck:

The edges of the railings and supports have been touched up with water colour paint. The next step is to build up the numerous consoles that go around the sides.

There are 7 consoles in total, I have started with the 2 smaller ones:

Having assembled the two smaller consoles I realised that the side panels are not connected together on the main sheet, as I assumed :roll: :

Image

Four of the consoles have red edges as they will protrude past the main viewer and turbolift entrance when in place and can be seen, as shown on the instruction sheet picture:

Image

To overcome my minor mishap I have painted the necessary panels with red paint. I must pay more attention to the labeling of parts and not assume that similar parts are indeed the same.

Yet another lesson learnt. :grin:

Started on assembling the 5 larger consoles by cutting out the 4 parts:

Image

As you can see the right side panel is actually the wrong one, but once butted together the red colour will not be seen.

Gluing these together is quite a task due to the complex shapes, so a bit of inventive clamping has been called for:

Flat tweezers (they probably have a more technical name) are really handy tools for securing straight seams while the glue dries...not really something that we do much of in plastic modelling that is core to paper modelling...

Really enjoying the growth of the 3D forms from 2D roots in this build...

Whilst building up the larger consoles (which isn't tedious at all :roll: ) I have also put together the Turbolift entrance and attached it to the upper deck:

Image

As you can see there is quite a gap at the bottom where the doors bow away from the deck, nothing that a bit of card cannot sort out.

A bit of card backing the door will also make it less likely to bow if the temperature or humidity around its display areas change...
