Tamiya also provide a ball bearing with their MiG-15 kits. Something other manufacturers could learn from?

Mixed up some metallic paint last night and started working on engine parts.

I used Testors enamels starting with Flat Black 1149 and mixed in Steel 1180 and Gold (forgot the number). At any rate started laying on colors and they should be dry enough tonight to get most of the engine assembled.

How much of your fine handiwork on the engine will be visible?

Hey Toby. There is actually two engines set in duplicate sprues. One you can display either with open cowls or on the engine stand and one blanked off for the closed up version. The pieces are interchangeable using poly caps and pins. Pop one off and change out the assembly. I plan on the closed up piece with the bare engine on the stand. There appear about 15 add on piece to the ignition chamber but no real plumbing. But it will be busy enough. Due to the time line of the GB, I will press on with the closed up version so I can get done on time.

I am actually at a point where I can start picking my camo colors.

Thanks for checking in.

A bit of engine work last night and really impressed with how it all goes together. There are still a few parts to go and a little weathering but I like it so far.

Another area to warn about is the enclosed cowl pieces. I had glued the pieces together and when I put the intake and exhaust pieces on to check fit, they both stood proud of the cowling. NOT A GOOD THING. The culprit turned out to be the base plate which was attached a little off the mark. Using a razor saw I removed the plate, re-attached it correctly and viola, the piece fell together. The instruction sheet drawings were not clear in that regard. Disaster averted.

Very nice modelling; it would be nice if more kits had a spare engine
Best wishes

Quite a work inside. Looks to be really neatly engineered too. Whatever Tamiya wants for that kit makes it still a good value.

The airframe has been taxied over to the paint shop and it will be done in sub-sections as the fit is good.

Here is the wings etc painted RLM76. Yes I painted the extra gear doors just in case of accidents.
