Quick work. They aren't hardest of kits to put together. I reckon a Hobbyboss one would take about an hour

I notice you have on;y opened the airbrakes by about 45 degrees, is that what the real thing does? Have i opened mine too far?!

Well, I sort of followed the kit on this. Putting the air-brakes on it felt like they would glue better at that angle, and have more contact with the part they attach to. Although if you've managed to open them more then I look silly!!!.Blueberryruby wrote:I notice you have on;y opened the airbrakes by about 45 degrees, is that what the real thing does? I know the real things open but their maximum angle is not something I know about so you, me or neither of us may be right!!
Hoping to return to modelling sometime this year!!

Thanks chaps, it's not a difficult kit to put together and isn't overloaded with parts really. Apart from the seams and gaps pointed out by BB it's pretty good.shangos70 wrote:Coming along nicely. It's a big old thing isn't it?

I know what you mean about "followed the kit", there is a certain angle that feels right with the kit but ignored that and stuck them out further and will fill the resulting gap before priming it.MarkyM607 wrote:Well, I sort of followed the kit on this. Hey guys, here is a very crappy pic I took of a F-106 speed brake back in the mid 70's (MTANG).

And here is a link to one on a F-102.

Thanks! It looks like i've got lucky and put it at the right angle but i then went and filled the gaps. I've primed it all now so i can't even scrape it back.philp wrote:Hey guys, here is a very crappy pic I took of a F-106 speed brake back in the mid 70's (MTANG).

Re: Marky's F-106 take 2.
So far so good. The instructions were a little vague on colour, it's showing Mr Color/Gunze Sangyo which I don't have. It also says 'aircraft grey' which is also vague!. I have ended up using Humbrol 147 (I think) and it seems okay, might be a little light?.

The shade looks similar to the one Toby ended up with. It looks like you've done a good job on the paint work!

Re: Marky's F-106 take 2.
Thanks chaps. I've completed construction (ahem- more later), decals underway, so far so good except that the US Air Force title on one side broke into five pieces and needs replacing.
As I said, construction complete, although during the decalling the left wheel fell off, followed by the fuel tank in due course. Later the left leg went to although it looks a clean separation. Now the right tank has come out/off in sympathy!. Starting to lose focus and will to continue but onwards!!.
(Hasegawa decals and they break up!!!!!)
