1/24 Spitfire

I know the Airfix kit A50401 is a bit elderly these days and there's a new tool out there, but the older kit (in the RF*D gift set edition) is on Amazon for about £25 - exactly the value of the Amazon voucher I got for my birthday...

So is it worth it? I'm not averse to the idea of supplementing it with AM stuff, but obviously the new tool is on Hannants for a smidge over £40 so if I'd need more than £15 of AM to make it up to the same level, then I might as well just do something else...

New tool? There ain't no new tool...

Any Airfix 1/24 Spitfire has (most of) the same parts in the box. RF-D will come with the extra bits for the cannon wings, crudely-detailed and soapy they may be. If you're lucky, you'll get a really good decal sheet...

This is the same base kit:

Though I used Techmod Decals, so I got a whole selection of increasingly elaborate "Donalds". I think the one in the OOB kit is the one before this, which is a tad smaller...

bestest,
M.

As he says. no new tool. The Vb kit comes with all the parts to make a 1.
Not much in 'aftermarket'; seat belts, instrument panel decal/acetate, metal cannon, markings masks, a few sheets of markings; thats about it.

*the new tool Vb is 1/48.

Ah, I dunno why, I thought there was a new one which was why the older one seemed to be on offer in a few places.

You might be thinking of the Trumpeter ones from a couple of years back.

For £25 you get a lot of kit for your money and it builds up well considering its age, there is stacks of room for adding extra detail or it can still look good OOB.

At that price you can't go far wrong or you could get the new Revell 1/32 Spitfire for about the same amount.

Seems a fair price as it's a lot of kit although I picked up one from Debenhams for £18 a couple of years ago. They do come up occasionally with some very good deals.
