Mirage Hobby 1/350 'HMS Spiraea' Flower Class Corvette

Well, seeing as how I've bought about 15 1/350 warships of one era or another so far this year, I thought I'd better try my hand at building one!
I picked on the Corvette as it was still indoors and had not got lost in the stash
After many years of 1/72 modelling, I have to say everything is a lot smaller at this end of the scale, but the quality of the moulding is still pretty good!
The photo etch comprises guardrails in the main, but it's enough just to add some fine detail to such a small kit. When I compare the size of the corvette at this scale to other same-scale ships, it's scary that we used to expect 80 or so men to go to sea and fight in them....very sobering thought
Anyway., progress so far:
The funnel and bridge assemblies are only placed in position so far....

After several evenings of testing my eyesight (and patience) to the extreme limit, progress has been made
Bridge guns and radar 'lantern' added with PE handrails!
Main gun and surround in place (and the gun revolves!!)
Bit of paint added, and sub assemblies placed to see how it's looking
The last three shots are after fixing the funnel and bridge assemblies into place plus the fo'c'sle handrails.....
Not much more to go now!!

I always wonder how could I possibly accomplish anything in 1/700
. They are small in 350 already, I agree. Your escort is coming along fantastically!

Cheers guys!
Well, I'm declaring this done! All except a thinned matt varnish just to knock back the clumps of weathering wash that is
It's been an enjoyable, if frustrating at times build; the instructions could do with being bigger and with a little more precise indication of the locations for certain parts, and the colour painting instructions would benefit from a topside view! Other than that though, the moulding is excellent for the scale, and the PE handrails really help to set it off.
I intend to set the ship into a small seascape when I pluck up the courage to attempt one
Highly recommended kit!!
Illustrious here we come! (but not just yet
)

Because the Flowers had a well-deserved reputation for "rolling on wet grass"
And, BTW, iggie's pix are a great illustration of that. Congrats on a quickly and very well done model ....

Brilliant work, it has made me want to either go out and buy one or finish my 1/72 version.

It is a Kiel Kanal
, similar feeling.
I like it a lot by the way, these Mirage kits, just like you observed have a lot of potential but need a little more careful approach because you actually need to learn how stuff works in reality to figure out where the little stuff is going
. I had similar experience with A86 mid-year. Mirage would benefit from a tutorial on instructions from Tamiya guys. And then, I would pay 10-15$ more if there was a well though-out PE with it, since the models are quite interesting.
