Re: Paul's Attempts
That Tie is a great piece of modelling Paul. If tile decals are available for the shuttle then that would be the easiest way to go I suppose. Otherwise I'm not too certain other than painting the underside various shades of black/very dark grey.
Doing - Tamiya 1/35th Universal Carrier.

Re: Paul's Attempts
I've just had a quick look on eBay; there are plenty available at 1/72, 1/100 and 1/144......but none that I can see at 1/200ShaunW wrote:That Tie is a great piece of modelling Paul. Perhaps purchasing some at 1/100 and scan/print with the appropriate scaling factor?
Best wishes
Jim
If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing

Re: Paul's Attempts
Thanks Shawn and Iggie,
I do not want to rush this one and so I have put it on hold for a bit until I get up the drive to do more.
Cheers,
I found a decal set that is 1/200 scale by a gentleman in the UK, but it only covers the bottom of the shuttle. They do look fantastic though. The problem is, they look so good, it will not match the quality of the top if I use them. I found a free paper model shuttle and may print them off and use that for the exterior. Not sure which way to go. I used a free paper model from the net on a paper model forum for some details in the interior. Again, this is not my work. I scaled them down from 1/100 and printed them on clear decal film. They look pretty good. A coat of white paint over the tin foil and then the decals worked pretty well.iggie wrote:I've just had a quick look on eBay; there are plenty available at 1/72, 1/100 and 1/144......but none that I can see at 1/200ShaunW wrote:That Tie is a great piece of modelling Paul. Thank you David,
Plan on a long time at the museum, there are many great aircraft there. I still can't believe they stuck a human on top of the little ballistic missile!
Long trip from Down Under!

Thank you Stu. Well worth the trip. Wish I had the time to see the other museums as well!Sir T wrote:Super TIE fighter - nice work.

Yep! Bit of a pilgrimage - PIMA museum and Davis-Monthan AFB at Tucson, USS Intrepid and Republic airport/museum in NYC and both Smithsonian locations in Washington DC. All leading up to me catching up with my long-time internet pen pal (also from Ottawa), at the IPMS Nats in Nebraska, then Pearl Harbour on the way home.PGAS wrote:Long trip from Down Under!
I sincerely hope that Donald Trump does not upset the tourist applecart by then!
I have already visited the USAF museum in Ohio many years ago. It has since been expanded, so I hope I can revisit someday, plus the US Navy museum at Pensacola.
cheers,
David

Great-looking TIE fighter! Terrific job masking and painting the window, which must have been tough. Very neat!
The shuttle bay looks amazing. Looking forward to seeing more of this. Good luck on the tiles!

Re: Paul's Attempts
I am chewing on the idea. I suppose at 1/200 scale they will be small and hard to see anyway so all I would need is an impression of tiles.Dazzled wrote:Re. The shuttle tile decals. Have you thought about printing your own?

Re: Paul's Attempts
Thanks for the compliments guys.
I have started the Airfix Bf109E in 1/72 scale. A very good little kit.
While the airfix kit detail is quite good, I had an old resin cockpit from True Details gathering dust so I decided to use it. It is for the Hasegawa Bf109G but I used it anyways. I know not everyone will agree, but this is all for fun, not necessarily accuracy for me. Cockpit side detail has been removed.
Here is the old Airfix cockpit.
Rear cockpit bulkhead had to be cut to allow the resin one to fit.
New resin details test fitted. Again, not accurate but I don't mind.
A little paint and wash.
I did use the control column from the Airfix kit. It actually fit very well with the resin pieces.
The Airfix instrument panel and decals. Worked very nicely.
Coming together.
Flat coat to take the shine off.
This has been a very fun kit to build so far. Will post more soon.
Thank you for looking.
