A little more work on the Arado.

Primed with Tamiya grey primer and then painted using Vallejo RLM02. After I painted the aircraft, I forgot that I had to paint a yellow band on the tail! I wanted to do this first but my brain let me down and I forgot. The smart phone camera could not pick up the correct colour. It is nothing like this in person.

You can see after I changed cameras that although it is the same colour, the camera has picked it up differently. This is still too green compared to in person. It is more grey or olive than in these pictures. Not sure why or how to get the correct colour to show! On a good note, the Vallejo yellow went on like a champ! Vallejo US Grey on the nose. I really enjoy airbrushing these acrylics.

I lost the two photo etch trim actuators on the elevators to the carpet monster while painting! :oops:

A clear coat of Tamiya coming up and I can be on to decals!

Any tips on correcting the colours would be appreciated. Camera was a Canon Rebel XSi with the aperture set to F22 to increase depth of field. I am no photographer! :lol:

Cheers,

I suspect you need to change the white balance to correspond with the light you are shooting in; I think the XSi is the same as my 650d so you can change it by using the wb key on the back of the camera or the touch screen. Nice work on the arado btw!

Hi Paul!

It's looking great! That's a very nice build of an elegant-looking plane. As always, your paint job is flawless!

Regarding the colour balance of the photos, if you can't do it in-camera, Google "color balance software", and a bunch pop up. This one's free, I believe: https://pixlr.com/editor/;

Thank you Iggie, I changed the white balance and it seems to have improved the colours significantly.

Fred, I will check out the program to see if I can make use of it in the future.

I have finished adding the decals and used a brown oil wash in the panel lines. A final coat of Tamiya semi-gloss clear to seal the decals. In the process I knocked off the final two photo etch actuators! :oops: Oh well, if figured I would do that.

Looking very sharp with the decals!

Can you tell us what paint you used? I have a kit of an Arado floatplane which I'd like to paint the same way.

Hey Fred! I always like the way the decals change the models appearance from plain to cool. I used Vallejo model air RLM02 for the fuselage and Vallejo Model Color yellow for the band on the tail. The yellow was painted after the grey/green since I forgot to go from light to dark but it covered up nicely nonetheless. Model Master jet exhaust enamel was used on the exhaust stack (what little there is of it). I was thinking about building the Special Hobby Arado float plane as well (Arado Ar196 I believe). It has an interesting look.

:-D

Thank you all, it really is a nice kit and a good start to playing with resin and photo etch. Only a couple of times did it make me sweat. :grin:
